If I had to rate this book, "Mistress of My Fate" by
Hallie Rubenhold, on a 1 to 10 scale, I wouldn't be able
to, because 10 isn't a high enough number for how much I
enjoyed "Mistress of My Fate" Hallie Rubenhold is an
author who must have great intelligence. She had my eyes
sealed to the pages, it was hard for me to put the book
down. I cried at times, while reading this amazing story
about Henrietta (Ingerton) Lightfoot, an innocent young girl
who grew up fast and was wiser than most young women of her
time.
As there are many wagging tongues in the Ton spreading
rumors about her Henrietta writes a confessional
entitled "Mistress of My Fate". She intends to tell all
who read it the true story of her life. She has noble
breeding, but is always in her cousins shadow, and does not
have good prospects. She is being trained as a lady in
waiting for her very spoiled cousin Kathy, whose quick
temper is often turned towards Henrietta. When the cousins
are on vacation, they meet the handsome Lord Allenham.
Both girls are smitten, but only one can marry him. Lord
Allenham is also smitten, but as he is not a wealthy man
and needs money to continue to fund his estate he must
marry for money instead of love, and therefore hatches a
plan. To
discover that plan, you must read MISTRESS OF MY FATE
yourself.
As the story continues, life continues to be hard for
Henrietta, yet she manages to pull through the tough
times. These are the times when readers will need tissues
close, as they wonder when will Henrietta get her happily
ever after. When she finally emerges as the strong
confident person I knew she could be, I wanted to cheer! To
see exactly what happens, and how her happily ever after
concludes, read the wonderful MISTRESS OF MY FATE.
I know it will tug at your
heart strings the way it tugged at mine, and that it will
be reading time well enjoyed.
Set during a period of revolution and turmoil, Mistress of My Fate is the first book in a trilogy about Henrietta Lightfoot, a young woman who was abandoned as a baby and raised alongside her cousins, noble children of a lord and lady. At just sixteen years old, circumstance and a passionate love affair tear Henrietta away from everything she knows, leading to a new life fending for herself on the streets of 18th century London as a courtesan, gambler, and spirited intellect of the city.
