BURNING BLUE is a unique kind of young adult book. It's the
kind that
really gets you right in the feelings. It holds your
attention from the very
start and doesn't let you go.
Nicole, the richest and most popular girl in school, has
always seemed to
live a charmed and glamorous life. That is, until she is
attacked by
someone who throws acid onto half of her face, leaving her
disfigured. Jay,
who is a bit of a loner and a skilled hacker, decides to
investigate in hopes
of discovering who was behind the attack. Suspects abound
and feelings
develop, but who is truly responsible?
Wow! I am so glad that I decided to pick up BURNING BLUE.
It's a bit
darker and more intense than most of the contemporary young
adult books
that I've read, but that's honestly what I really loved
about it. This is not
your typical fluffy happy-go-lucky romance, but the romance
itself is
definitely one to swoon over.
The mix of mystery and romance is what really pulled me in
to the story. I
found myself frantically flipping through the pages in order
to find out more
and see how the relationships developed. One of the things I
loved the
most was that we got to see things from Jay's perspective.
I've always been
a fan of male POV in young adult books.
The characters are engaging and the story has the perfect
pace. I really
just didn't want to put this one down. I will definitely
pick up more books by
Paul Griffin as soon as possible!
How far would you go for love, beauty, and jealousy? When Nicole Castro, the most beautiful girl in her wealthy New Jersey high school, is splashed with acid on the left side of her perfect face, the whole world takes notice. But quiet loner Jay Nazarro does more than that--he decides to find out who did it. Jay understands how it feels to be treated like a freak, and he also has a secret: He's a brilliant hacker. Award-winning author Paul Griffin has written a high-stakes, soulful mystery about the meaning--and dangers--of love and beauty.
