BLACK LAMENT finds a grieving Madeline Black not sure what
to do next. She works for the Agency as an Agent of Death;
her job is to make sure souls get to where they belong. But
right now she could care less ... her husband is dead and all
she can think about is revenge. Then her grandfather,
Lucifer himself tells her she carries Gabriel's child. Now
she has the child ... and her revenge to live for.
She has her gargoyle buddy Beezle to keep her going along
with Samiel, her late husband Gabriel's half brother, the
werewolf Jude and the newly added complications of her
life, her former unwanted fiancé Nathaniel. He had been a
follower of the one who killed Gabriel ... her own father
Azazel. Now he has been placed as her body guard by Lucifer.
On top of everything the Agency isn't happy with her at
all. She has missed a couple of retrievals and she tends to
interfere when she sees innocent people about to be killed.
They prefer she look the other way. That is so impossible
for her when she finds that 16 other agents have been
kidnapped and the Agency will do nothing. They tell J.B.
her boss to not interfere but even he cannot stand by
and do nothing. He also admits that he is in love with
Maddy and wants to protect her. They rescue the agents but
when they return they are arrested by the Agency. About
this time Maddy has had enough. Too many people she cares
about have been harassed and tortured. It ends now.
BLACK LAMENT is book 4 of the Black Wing novels. It is a
fast paced, action packed, story with a butt kicking
heroine that keeps you glued to the pages. If you haven't
read the first books of the series, reading this one will
get you hooked. I did find the characters a little
complicated having come into the series this late but once
I figured out who and what they were it was a great read.
The ending was spectacular and as I'm sure the author
[Christina Henry] intended it leaves you wanting more.
Devastated and grieving, Maddy unexpectedly finds hope with
the discovery that she is pregnant. But Maddy’s joy is short
lived when Lucifer informs her that he wants the baby,
hoping to draw on the combined power of two of his
bloodlines. Maddy is determined that her grandfather will
never have her child, but she’s not sure what she can do to
stop him.
Being pregnant is stressful enough, but Maddy suddenly finds
herself at odds with the Agency—forbidden from meddling in
the affairs of the supernatural courts. When a few of her
soul collections go awry, Maddy begins to suspect that the
Agency wants to terminate her employment. They should know
by now that she isn’t the sort to give up without a fight…
