After the death of his wife Miriam and Jamie, their young
son, Gideon Fisher only wants to be alone. He stopped
visiting friends and neighbours, stopped attending the
church services of his Amish faith, yet, he can not stop
responding when he feels someone is in trouble. When he
hears what has to be the wail of a car horn coming from the
isolated road by his farm, he knows someone needs help. So
out he goes in the dark of the night in the middle of a
raging snowstorm.
Fighting through the snowstorm, he doesn't know what to
expect. He definitely doesn't expect to find what looks to
be a small pixie princess of a woman in a sparkly dress and
a tiny yapping dog. After removing the injured woman from
the car and carrying her to his small home, Gideon is glad
when she slowly regains consciousness. When he tells her
she was in a wreck, she responds that her whole life was a
wreck.
Heiress to her father's fortune, the lovely Avery Ann
Hamilton, has had her heart broken again by her dashing
fiancé, Jack, after finding him in bed with another woman
and realizing he was just another man who wanted her
millions more than her. As Avery, now called "Annie" by
Gideon recovers from her accident, she finds herself
relaxing in the rhythms of daily living and is in no hurry
to go back to her hectic social schedule in Dallas. Can
she really be falling for this quiet, gentle, animal loving
Amish man? Can Gideon learn to let go of his anguish over
his guilt and live again in community?
With her well-researched knowledge of Amish customs, a keen
sense of plot development, and tongue in cheek humour, Amy
Lillard has crafted a very different, yet heart-warming
story between two strong characters whose lives are worlds
apart. Gideon and Avery both have suffered heartbreaking
loss, yet they are able to find a new spirit through their
faith in God. Amish story fans as well as those who believe
in the power of love and forgiveness are sure to enjoy the
interactions between these two unlikely people as they are
helped along their journey by the antics of Mary Elizabeth,
Gideon's niece and Louie V., Avery's little dog! I am
thrilled that SAVING GIDEON is part of a series of Clover
Ridge novels. I can't wait to read more!
Gideon Fisher wants one thing out of life -- to be left
alone. This is not the Amish way, but he’s devastated after
the death of his wife and son to the point of losing his
faith. He buys a farm on the outskirts of the district and
pulls away from his community. But when a freak spring
snowstorm brings a beautiful Englisher to his farm, what
choice does Gideon have but to let her in?
Dallas socialite Avery Ann Hamilton is intrigued by the
Amish farmer who pulls her out of the snow and into his
austere lifestyle. Poor little rich girl, Avery has just
gone through (yet another) bad breakup. Every man she meets
only wants her for her father’s money. All she has ever
wanted is to be loved for herself. Avery soon discovers the
Oklahoma Amish country is the perfect place to hide out and
heal her broken heart.
But she finds a peace in those back roads that she’s never
felt before. Now her life has purpose and meaning as she
connects with God and those around her. And there’s
something more as she begins to care for this man who needs
both love and forgiveness.
Gideon never wanted to live again much less fall in love,
but Avery finds her way into his heart, showing him the
beauty of life and God’s greatness. Yet as the feelings
between Avery and Gideon grow, can they overcome their
dissimilar lifestyles, or will their sheer differences pull
them apart?
