Shadow's Fall

SHADOW'S FALL is the third book in Dianne Sylvan's thrilling Shadow World series. Sylvan remains an author who throws me for countless loops and has me leaping off bridges right there with her! There are several things that I adore about Dianne Sylvan. First, I love the fact that not all things are pretty and wonderful in the Shadow World. Sometimes things just don't work out and that's okay. Second, I love the fact that Sylvan has created characters that have average everyday normal relationship problems. Sylvan's characters have trust issues, they cheat, they lie, and they don't always agree on everything. Third, I really love the fact that not all relationships are created equal, not all partners are of the opposite sex, and love doesn't just come easily. Yes I really love the fact that Dianne Sylvan is not afraid to tell it like it is. Love is not happily ever after -- they get married and sail off into the sunset -- there are never any major problems in the relationship- type stuff in real life. This is the single fact that is most important if you are going to read this series or begin this book. Life is about struggle and SHADOW'S FALL is completely about that struggle. Thank you Ms. Sylvan.

Now that that is out of the way...here's our story.

If you have not read the first two books, you have missed out on a lot! Here's a quick synopsis: All powerful Vampire David Solomon rescues Miranda Grey a Grammy winning musician. Miranda, at this point, is a wreck on all levels. Struggling to survive as an empathy Miranda needs David in more ways than one and as he helps her they fall in love. Fast forward to book 2. Not all things shiny glitter and neither do all relationships. David acts on old feelings and has an affair with ex-lover Devon. (oh, and yes Devon is of the manly gender) Miranda and David both struggle with his actions and each deals with the relationship damage in their own way while remaining together.

SHADOW'S FALL continues the relationship struggles between David and Miranda who ultimately have to move past the past to save their people. Both David and Miranda carry a signet that sustains their lives as long as they are not separated. The vampire counsel is meeting in their territory and there is an old enemy back on the hunt for Miranda's blood. With all the major players playing this book provides some powerful emotional scenes. There are several love/hate relationships going on, then -- as with any good vampire story -- there is also a huge complexity of betrayal and violence, and not to worry Sylvan does not disappoint on the love story.

I do feel that some of the plot lines in SHADOW'S FALL were not what readers were expecting. There were times when I felt that the story was dragging in the middle and I really just wanted to shake Miranda and David to give them some sense! Get over it already and move on people! I was also disappointed with the ending. I am a series reader. Once I start a series there is not too much (but a really horrible book) that will stop me from reading the series in its entirety. I really hate cliffhangers. I wish that publishers and authors understood that I am going to buy the next one because at this point I am involved in your character's lives. I have to know what happens with them next and I will be anxiously waiting for the rest of the story.

So for anyone reading SHADOW'S FALL right now -- Please, please remember this is not your story, it is not your book, and you have no idea what else Dianne Sylvan has in store for Miranda and David, but I will bet it's gonna be good!

SUMMARY

For three years, Miranda Grey-Solomon has kept her role as Vampire Queen of the South separate from her Grammy-winning music career. But now, her dual lives are starting to collide, threatening everything Miranda and David, her Prime, have worked for.

The entire Signet Council has descended upon Austin for its ten-year summit, bringing with it Prime James Hart of the Northeast, a sworn enemy come to take his revenge on those who defied him. But Miranda and David receive an unexpected offer of help from David's sire, an ancient and powerful vampire with knowledge that may be their salvation--or their doom.
