BLIND DESTINY, a paranormal fantasy could otherwise be
called horror,
as there is a lot of screaming, dying and haunting in the
tale. The seventh in a series called Grimm's Circle,
this
picks up the story of the originators of many of the
fairytales, which were based on strongly emotive events.
Two of the Grimms, or guardians, are appointed to visit the
Greek island Crete and investigate a haunted house. Luc is
blind and can see through the eyes of his companion dog.
Myrsina, or Sina, is not telling him that she lived in the
haunted house centuries ago and was responsible for some of
the ghosts. She is also not telling him that she has been
in love with him for a long time, but he was mourning the
loss of his wife and unresponsive. The Grimms work to fight
off demons, evil beings and those who seek demon tomes,
books of evil lore. Sina suspects that something is
possessing the haunted house. She and Luc are at odds for
much of the tale, each too caught up in their own pasts to
realise that the other needs them.
I am not a fan of horror so someone who does enjoy the
genre would get more out of this than I did. What I found
most rewarding was the attention to detail that Luc was
able to sense without the use of his eyes, such as
textures, scents and sounds, enabling him to participate
fully even when his dog was not with him. If you have read
the series to date, BLIND DESTINY will be a must-read. Or if
you just want a multilayered adventure involving
wraiths, 'seven bloody sisters' and a misguided documentary
film maker, give it a try, but keep a light on....
Myrsina knows the stories. As one of the oldest of the
Grimm, she had a hand in writing most of them, but only she
knows the dark origin of the Seven Bloody Sisters. It
springs from the place of her birth—and her death. A place
of pain and misery to which she plans to never return.
Unless forced.
When Luc appears on her doorstep, her heart twists with
suppressed longing for the man who can never be hers. The
only man who can make her do the impossible—go home.
Luc may be blind, but through their unique, bittersweet
connection, even he can see that the task laid before them
is ripping Sina’s soul apart. This time it isn’t as simple
as fighting a demon that has escaped from the netherplains.
Sina must go back in time—to that cursed ground—and right a
wrong that she unknowingly brought about. To write a new
ending to a story that may give them both a chance at
happily ever after. Assuming they survive.
Warning: This book contains a not-so-fairy-tale prince, a
Snow White who was never very innocent, a lot of bloody
fights, some ghosts, and a new sort of angel…
