Suzanne Enoch has a way with words; a unique way of molding,
shaping, and writing characters so fresh so real that you
feel as if you actually know them -- as if you have been
swept back into time and are just standing there watching
their lives unfold before your very eyes! I have loved
Enoch's characterization in every book of hers I have read
and TAMING AN IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE definitely did not change
that opinion. From the first page I felt sucked in and began
learning her hero -- who quite quickly became my hero.
I loved the storyline of this book, as one of the Scandalous
Bride series I knew that I would be in for a treat, but I
had no idea that this one would rise to be my favorite of
all her books. I expected a scandal, but that was just it I
expected A scandal. Instead I got the scandal before the
scandal before the ultimate scandal!
The heroine, Camille
could not seem to get anything quite right! She almost
seemed to snub society repeatedly throughout the story every
step she took, even if it was right, seemed to be wrong in
the eyes of society. Camille's troubles were one of the
things that allowed me to open up to her, the fact that she
was not just another young miss looking for a husband, or a
third year debutante struggling to stay off the shelf, or a
duke's daughter who just wants love. Oh no, Camille jilted
her intended -- scandal one, was disowned and forced to take
shelter at the Tantalus gentleman's club -- scandal two, and
now she finds herself falling in love with the man who was
paid to fetch her back to the jilted fiancé -- the beginnings
of possible scandal three!
Did I mention that I love love love the hero of TAMING AN
IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE? He
has an excellent backstory making him that wonderful blend of
not so perfect, not so bad that just seems to hit the heart.
Keating Blackwood was written as a man with his own
problems...a past scandal that left him a both a murderer and
a father to a child he doesn't know, a lack of money to
support both the widow and their son, and tender spot in his
heart for yet another damsel that clearly needs his help to
survive.
The fact that Keating starts out with honorable intentions
simply to help Camille and that Enoch allows this
relationship to bloom into something far deeper made the
story that much more impacting. Had they simply fallen in love
I do not think that either character would have appeared as
strong nor feel as vulnerable as they did when they realized
friendship had turned into something more.
I really enjoyed the fact that typical everyday struggles,
sacrifices, and familial pressures were so much a part of
this book. Here is one more way that Enoch's characters have
that lifelike quality that I have come to know and love.
Enoch's secondary characters were written just as colorfully
as the primaries. I really enjoyed Camille's friends at the
Tantalus Club and the additional benefit of Keating's
mysterious friend the Duke...well let's just say I am
impatiently waiting for that story to be written.
One year ago, Lady Camille Pryce left her haughty fiancé at
the altar—for good
reason. Not only was the marriage arranged before she could
even walk, her
betrothed was too smug to exert himself to meet her! Now,
disowned, with no
husband or family to support her, she’s left with one
option: go to work in the
notorious Tantalus Club…
A gentleman’s gaming house run by a woman, the Tantalus is
no place for a
proper lady; so, to save face, her jilted fiancé must
retrieve her. But banned
from the club, he’s forced to employ his ne’er-do-well
cousin instead. A
handsome, experienced rogue, Keating Blackwood is the
perfect man to lure
Camille away. But the moment they meet, Keating instead
wants to save her…
for himself. Impossible? Perhaps. But if Camille can make
the ultimate player lay
his cards on the table—and risk his heart—all bets are off…
