Phineas "Finn" Burke wants nothing more than to perfect his
new electrical powered motor engine without interruptions
or distractions. That is until he meets Lady Alexandra
Morley. Who knew distractions could be so beautifully
deceiving?
A LADY NEVER LIES by Juliana Gray opens the exciting world
of the late eighteen hundreds when there was a huge leap in
technological advancement. It's so easy to take automobiles
for granted as the majority of us couldn't live without
one. Gray takes us back to see the creativity and ingenuity
required from these early pioneers and how incredibly
daring those inventors were.
Finn's character is a nice change from the mold
of 'inventor' which I often see. He has people skills. He
can carry on a conversation. He has a sense of humor and he
does like to get out and see parts of the world other than
his lab. He is also one of the all-around nicest characters
I've read. He's a logical fellow who behaves logically
throughout the book. He doesn't jump to unfounded
conclusions with little or no proof. He is a true scientist
and I loved that.
Lady Alexandra is a refreshing change as well. Popular,
beautiful, and witty, she admits to being shallow and vain.
She admits that she's not a nice person and I certainly
feel that maybe she could have been that mean girl we all
secretly dread approaching. That's why I enjoyed her
character so much. She's a study of contradictions and her
character is still evolving.
Their romance is sweet but still passionate. Their
courtship made me sigh a little for those remembered days
of first love. A LADY NEVER LIES is romantic, refreshing
and worth reading.
Lady Alexandra Morley, an alluring widow, is desperate to
devise a plan to reverse her fortunes. When fate lands her
in the arms of Phineas "Finn" Burke, an attractive
inventor, she despairs of ever getting what she
needs...until they kiss.
Finn has always been impervious to the charms of the female
species, intent only on perfecting his "horseless carriage"
engine. He never dreamed he'd meet a woman like Alexandra,
who is as stubborn as she is comely. Despite the brewing
scandal, Finn longs to make Alexandra his wife, but he must
first convince the maddening lady that their love is the
only thing that matters.
