Fresh Fiction Review

Shadow Bound
Rachel Vincent

Fantasy Urban

Rachel Vincent's clear, witty writing style shows through in this second installment of the Unbound series. The novel is told from two different perspectives, Kori and Ian. The reader will appreciate the differences in the tone and writing style of each character, setting them apart as memorable characters. Within a few chapters of meeting, the readers will probably be able to literally feel the romantic tension between the two characters. Though they frustrate each other, they have a certain spark between them, a spark especially apparent in the dialogue.

Kori is a shadow walker and can step from one shadow to another. She is under the dictatorship of the Jack Towers crew and forced to do as they say...partially to protect her sister. Ian wants to bring Towers to his knees. The two should have a lot in common, but Kori is worried that Ian will interfere with her mission for Towers and inadvertently harm her sister. The two must trust in each other before they can successfully work together. They are the characters focused upon, but the other characters are interesting and worrisome, in the case of Towers, to meet.

The plot resembles Vincent's typical fast-paced, action- packed former plots. It is very difficult to put this book down, particularly in the middle of the story. Kori and Ian's relationship is volatile at times and sweet in others, the reader will enjoy watching their relationship develop. Overall, Rachel Vincent fans should not miss this one!

SUMMARY

If you live in the dark long enough, you begin to forget the light... Kori Daniels is a shadow-walker, able to travel instantly from one shadow to another. After weeks of confinement for betraying her boss, she's ready to break free of the Tower syndicate for good. But Jake Tower has one final job for Kori, one chance to secure freedom for herself and her sister, Kenley, even if it means taking it from someone else... The job? Recruit Ian Holt-or kill him. Ian can manipulate the dark, landing him on every syndicate in the world's most-wanted list. But Ian works alone, and he's also on a mission: to infiltrate the Tower syndicate and free those enslaved to Tower by killing his top Binder, Kenley Daniels-Kori's little sister. Amid the tangle of lies, an unexpected thread of truth connecting Ian and Kori comes to light. But with opposing goals, they'll have to choose between love and liberty....
