CAST ON, KILL OFF is the latest in the Knitting Mystery
series.
Here, we find Kelly Flynn's friend Megan gearing up for her
wedding. Regular readers of the series know that Megan is a
bit of a control freak with a need for routine, so having a
wedding to oversee combined with a flood of relatives
pouring into town is throwing Megan into a frenzy. This
calls for the Lambspun gang to kick into gear and come up
with their own plan to calm Megan down, distract the
relatives, and do what they can to make sure Meg gets
hitched without a hitch.
All is going well until the Zoe (the seamstress hired to do
the bridesmaids dresses) gets thrown into a frenzy of her
own. First, she is accused by a fellow seamstress of
stealing an award-winning design. Then Zoe leaves her
abusive husband, which only angers him and sends him into a
rage. The Lambspun knitters rally around Zoe vowing to do
what they can to help her out, along with the local women's
shelter, but after an evening class that Zoe teaches, she is
found dead.
The obvious culprit is Oscar, who has no alibi, but could it
have been Leann, the other seamstress? Is dressmaking that
much of a cut-throat business that one seamstress would kill
another over a design? Despite her best efforts, Kelly
can't help but get involved in the investigation. She can't
believe that Leann would be involved, and she needs to keep
Leann calm since she's taking over the dressmaking duties
for Megan's impending wedding.
CAST ON, KLIL OFF was a fun read. The usual cast of
characters
from this series was around and that was nice, as was the
fact that some of the relationships continue to develop
well. However, some relationship continue to confound. For
instance, Kelly always seems to communicate to the local
police detective through the Lambspun owner's husband, Burt
(the detective's former partner). But after the passage of
this much time (and in such a small town), it seems a little
incredible that they can't communicate directly. It's also
somewhat tiresome that Kelly's amateur investigations are
constantly referred to by her friends as "sleuthing,"
complete with quotation marks, as if they invented the word.
Overall, although this is generally one of my favorite cozy
series, CAST ON, KILL OFF was a disappointment as the
mystery itself held no intrigue for me. However, visiting
the Lambspun crew will always be fun, and I definitely
intend to check out the next book. I am sure that Ms.
Sefton will bounce back splendidly in her next effort.n

Wedding bells are ringing in Fort Connor, Colorado, and the House of Lambspun knitters are abuzz with excitement. But when a murder interrupts the wedding planning, Kelly Flynn will have to solve this crime fast to ensure the killer doesn’t wind up on the guest list… Kelly Flynn’s knitting pal, Megan, is about to get hitched, and all the planning is falling into place. Megan has found the perfect seamstress, Zoe Yeager, to create the dresses for Kelly and the other bridesmaids. And each bridesmaid is knitting her own loose-knit shawl to drape over the lovely dresses. But Zoe has more than bolts of fabric and seam- cutters stashed away in her shop—she’s harboring a secret. Bruises on her face show a troubling side of her marriage, and just after she finds the courage to leave her husband, Zoe’s found dead from a single bullet shot. Though her husband is a key suspect, it turns out there are others who might have had designs on Zoe’s death. One is fellow seamstress Leann O’Hara, who recently discovered Zoe won a bridal gown design contest with one of Leann’s own designs. Now it’s up to Kelly and her knitting pals to use their sleuthing savvy to solve the case, while helping Megan stay cool and collected as the big day approaches. They’ll have to stitch up all the loose ends before they can don their dresses and shawls and escort Megan into the land of happily ever after…
