Suspense

Sara Lowell, beautiful TV journalist, and her handsome basketball star husband, Michael Silverman, seem to have it all. In spite of the fact that Sara still bears the scars of a premature birth and a long life of various illnesses, she's risen above these things to land one of the most eligible bachelors in New York. Michael, who also came through his very own traumas while growing up, adores his wife. They're living a "charmed" life, it seems, until Michael is stricken with a deadly disease.

Not only does Sara need to deal with her husband's illness, but there seems to be a serial killer running loose that is targeting gay men that have AIDS. So far, all of the victims have been patients at the clinic of Michael's very dear friend, Dr. Harvey Riker. Recently, one of Harvey's partners at the clinic has committed suicide, or it looks that way at least.

When Michael goes public with his disease, it's a game changer for Michael, Sara, and Harvey's clinic. It seems that Harvey and his partners may have come up with a cure for AIDS, but if the funding for his clinic is pulled, that cure will die just as quickly as those murdered gay men. Michael going public and being treated at Harvey's clinic changes everything for Harvey because, now, the public is more interested in saving the clinic.

Lots of people begin to support the clinic with the glaring exception of the Reverend Ernest Sanders, a bigot of the worst kind because he hides behind religion while using AIDS as his platform to prove homosexuality is one of the greatest sins. It's quick to see that the good Reverend Sanders is neither holy nor a good person. He's actually rather horrible and will, one day, be bursting through those Gates of Hell that he preaches so vehemently against. He's an awful person, but is he a murderer?

Too many people are involved in this entire thing and it's difficult to figure out the good guys from the bad ones. Then, there are other murders and Michael is kidnapped from the clinic. In a race against time, Sara's friend, Detective Max Bernstein is hot on the trail of the murderer as well as the kidnapper. But will he crack the case before it is too late for Michael and others?

Harlan Coben has been a favorite author of mine for years. He writes some of the most amazing and scary mysteries around. MIRACLE CURE is one of his first novels in a reprinted version. Even though it may not have quite the same punch as his later novels, this is still one that will grip you from the first page and hold you until the end. A timely novel for when it was written, it's a great nail biting roller coaster ride of a book and shouldn't be missed.
