Jazz Shepherd took a job teaching kindergarten at St. Peter
Catholic Elementary in the lakeside town of Bluegill as a
way to start-over after divorcing her cheating husband. She
lives with her cousin, the female impersonator, and
supplements her teaching salary by working part-time in the
office at the local marina. Leaving the marina one evening
she accidentally overhears a suspicious conversation between
the Mayor and a mysterious man. Soon she finds herself
working with the police to uncover the corruption in their
small town.
Jazz meets fireman Kurt Reynolds following a fire hose
accident at the school safety fair. Pretty soon they are
running into each other all over their small town (purposely
and by accident). Will Jazz's investigation prove too much
of a distraction from what might develop with Kurt?
HER LUCKY CATCH brings to life a small town full of quirky
characters. Having grown up Catholic, it was nice to see
nuns and Sunday mass featured in a mainstream romance as
part of the characters' everyday lives. Jazz was an
engaging heroine with a wealth of interesting friends,
family, and coworkers. Plus, you can never go wrong with a
hot fireman. I struggled somewhat with the plot. Jazz's
involvement in the police investigation was not as
compelling or suspenseful as I would have like. I wasn't
convinced that her recruitment by to police made sense.
Unfortunately, the intrigue element detracted from the
development of the romance between Kurt and Jazz. I would
like to see future books by Ms. Denman that focus on her
great characters.
Recently divorced kindergarten teacher Jazz Shepherd is
starting a new life in the quaint lakeside town of Bluegill.
After taking a summer job at the local marina to help make
ends meet, she's stunned when the chief of police enlists
her help in solving a crime.
Money has been disappearing from the city coffers, and a
trail leads from Bluegill's mayor to Damien Cerberus, a rich
boat owner—and possible killer. The police chief is
short-staffed and in need of someone to keep tabs on the
suspect. Jazz's job at the marina puts her in the perfect
position to help—and puts her in the path of Kurt Reynolds,
the hottie who mans the fireboat.
When things with Kurt start heating up, how can Jazz keep
her investigation undercover while enjoying time under the
covers with her summer flame?
