Legend has it that ghosts of escaped slaves haunt Cedar Creek Cemetery, and Doris McClellan, Boone Creek's local psychic, is disturbed by the mayor's acceptance of the cemetery becoming a local tourist attraction. Doris is interested in acquiring some objective verification regarding the appearance of mysterious lights at Cedar Creek and summons investigative science reporter Jeremy Marsh to begin researching this seemingly unexplainable phenomenon. Known for debunking the paranormal, Jeremy answers McClellan's request and comes to Boone Creek, a small rural community in North Carolina.

Upon Jeremy's arrival, he meets beautiful but gun-shy head librarian Lexie Darnall, granddaughter of Doris McClellan. Skeptical of strangers, Lexie begrudgingly assists Jeremy with his cemetery project and in the process, a strong attraction between the two develops. Jeremy, a confirmed bachelor and known ladies' man, is taken aback by his feelings for Lexie and must grapple with his growing interest in her. Lexie, having experienced several broken relationships in her past, runs from her feelings to a place she holds dear.

Nicholas Sparks once again doesn't disappoint in his ability to create an evocative and sentimental story. Peppered with a few quirky characters, Sparks presents all the best elements of living in a small town. The story flows effortlessly to the pivotal scenes when the mystery is solved and Jeremy and Lexie must make tough choices. While it does not require a box of tissues like many of Sparks' other novels, his latest story will make you a "true believer" in the power of love.

SUMMARY

As a science journalist with a regular column in Scientific American, Jeremy Marsh specializes in debunking the supernatural and has a real nose for the strange and unusual. A born skeptic, he travels to the small town of Boone Creek, North Carolina, determined to find the real cause behind the ghostly apparitions that appear in the town cemetery. What he doesn't plan on, however, is meeting and falling hopelessly in love with Lexie Darnell, granddaughter of the town psychic. Now, if the young lovers are to have any kind of future at all, Jeremy must make a difficult choice: return to the life he knows, or do something he could never do before-take a giant leap of faith.

A story about taking chances and following your heart, TRUE BELIEVER will make you, too, believe in the miracle of love.
