When I first sat down with SEX, LIES and MIDNIGHT I wasn't
really quite sure what to expect as I wasn't overly thrilled
with the first book in Tawny Weber's Undercover Operatives
trilogy, Sex Lies and Mistletoe. However, I must say
right away the story, was in my opinion, a much smoother
read. Tobias Black is still not quite out from under the
suspicion of several government agencies, and this time
around he's garnered the attention of Simon Barton. Simon
believes that proving Tobias to be guilty will be the bust
that will move his career upward in a way that only a large
arrest could. Only one thing stands in his way... getting to
Black Oak and into Tobias' circle of travel, so that he can
prove his case, arrest him, and let the judicial system
handle the rest.
Maya Black, Tobias's estranged daughter is about to return
home, but the one thing she doesn't want to do is returning
to Black Oak without a boyfriend. The woman
who was her biggest rival in high school, is now close to
her father, and more than willing to set poor Maya up on a
blind date or two.
When Maya and Simon meet at a party held by Maya's employer
the attraction is instant, but neither is ready for any sort
of commitment. Their paths will cross one more time before
Maya has to head home, and it's the second time they meet
that Maya gets the brainstorm of paying Simon to be her
boyfriend, and go home with her.
It's the perfect set up for both of them or is it? Will
their attraction to each other spark and make them each
forget their true reason for returning to Black Oak? What
about the case against Tobias? Is it truly possible that
someone else is framing him and will the succeed the second
time around?
When I turned the last page of SEX, LIES AND MIDNIGHT, I was
much more satisfied with how I spent my reading time than I
had been with the previous title. It is with great
anticipation that I now can turn my focus to the last book
in the trilogy, Sex Lies and Valentines.
Born into a con artist family, Maya Nicholas abandoned the grifting life to live on the straight and narrow (and somewhat dull) years ago. But when her family is threatened—and the swindlers are on the verge of becoming the swindled— Maya swings into action. All she needs is a stand-in boyfriend, and the charming, tasty-as-sin Simon Barton will do quite nicely, thanks. But Simon has a little lie of his own. He's FBI, and Maya is his inside track to her less-savory relations. It's a mutual using, which quickly turns into a scorching mutual attraction. In fact, their naughty little sexcapades are the only things they aren't faking!
