Court Gentry cannot return to the United States. Once an
assassin for the CIA, Court was betrayed by his team and
blamed for a friend's death. He now moves around from
country to country, relentlessly pursued by a Russian Crime
lord and the CIA. Court manages to continuously slip away
from the pursuers, leaving death in his wake. For he is the
Gray Man and at 37 years-of-age, he has killed many men for
his country and many just to survive while on the run.
Due to the need to leave any place at a moment's notice,
Court travels lightly, keeps to himself, and remains on high
alert. This makes for a lonely existence, but he isn't sure
he deserves any happiness. Part of him longs to settle
down, but the reality of his predicament ensures that this
will never happen. So he is left with only his memories.
One
such memory is that of Eddie Gamboa. He owes his life to
this Mexican American. When the latest attempt at his life
in the jungles of Brazil takes him to Mexico, he learns that
Eddie has just been killed, his good name destroyed by
allegations that he was working for a drug cartel, and that
he died while trying to kill rich businessman, Daniel de la
Rocha who is a drug lord himself. He stops to pay his
respects at Eddie's gravesite and meets Eddie's pregnant
wife, Elena, who invites him to come to her home and meet
Eddie's family. Reluctantly, Court does. He meets Eddie's
little sister, Laura. Eddie always talked of his little
sister while the two were in a Laotian prison long ago.
Beautiful to look at, with a strength that Court admires, he
is drawn to her.
Court's danger radar is on high alert when the family wants
to go to a memorial to defend Eddie's honor. Court spies
what are known as "Black Suits" spread out in the crowd and
realizes that Elena and her family are in grave danger.
Bullets start to fly and several family members, as well as
other innocents, are killed as the Black Suits, loyal to
Daniel de la Rocha, try to get to Elena as revenge against
Eddie's attack on de la Rocha. Court flies into
action and kills many of them, but unfortunately his brave
actions are recorded by a television station who were
filming the public memorial. Court takes reluctant control
of the
situation and leads the remaining Gamboa family to safety.
In Mexico, Court learns, no one can be trusted, from police
to family friends. Hiding out at a family compound in the
country, the chances of survival are slim for the small
group of elderly and women against many armed military,
police, and misguided farmers who have been promised money
once Elena has been captured and the others are killed.
In BALLISTIC, the Gray Man, Court Gentry, finds himself
mixed up in a battle between the honorable Gamboas and a
deranged drug lord. His involvement draws notice to
himself; he finds himself face to face with a former CIA
team member ordered to kill him. He can only do what he
does best - kill.
BALLISTIC is thrilling, fast-paced, and addictive for this
reader. I want to purchase the first two stories in the
Gray Man series and excitedly await future Court Gentry
stories. Court is a killer by profession and a man who
makes other's safety his mission. BALLISTIC is a fantastic
choice!
