Skye Dennison attends a free concert in Scrumble River where
she overhears some concerning news. Some developer wants to
put his own country music park in Scrumble River and the
citizens are divided in their opinions. Some are concerned
about the loss of good farmland and some applaud the jobs
that will come to the area.
One of the singers at the concert is the potential up and
comer, Suzette Neal. Suzette asks to speak with Skye after
the performance. Suzette's mother was murdered 27 years ago
in this very town. She wants to know who caused her
mother's death and hopes Skye can help. Skye reluctantly
agrees to investigate although she isn't sure what she can
do after all this time.
When Suzette is found dead beneath a steam roller, Skye's
investigation becomes more urgent. The guilt she feels for
not taking Suzette's quest seriously propels her into this
new investigation. Since Suzette's concern about the her
mother's death might be a factor in her own current death,
Skye and Wally decide they need to investigate both
mysteries.
MURDER OF A CREPED SUZETTE is the latest in the ongoing
Scrumble River series and is as enjoyable as the rest. We
see Skye and Wally working together to solve the mystery
with the style readers have grown to love. Simon is still
in the background as well as all the other characters we
have met in Scrumble River. The addition of Suzette's dog
adds some amusing moments with Skye's cat. The usual chaos
ensues as Skye goes on about her daily life while trying to
solve two murders. As usual, the whole town will be shaken
up by the her case.
When megamillionaire and imitation cowboy Rex Taylor
proposes building a country music theater in Scumble River,
everyone's ready to do the boot-scootin' boogie except
school psychologist Skye Denison. She's been asked by
Suzette Neal, Rex's assistant and a rising country star, to
investigate her mother's suspicious death twenty-seven years
earlier. No sooner does Skye agree to help than she finds
Suzette literally flattened — and very dead.
This has fast become a case of two questionable deaths, and
suspicion seems to be hovering over Suzette's inner circle:
Rex's jealous wife, a mysterious man in a black pickup
truck, and the sizzling-hot singer Flint James, who also
happens to have been Suzette's bitter rival for
country-western fame. With a honky-tonk full of suspects and
a tangled web of motives that stretches back two decades,
Skye has two options: Rise to the occasion or end up as flat
as a crêpe.
