A continuation in the Shadow Falls series, this book is
just as good as the first. Kylie, the main character, does
not know what type of paranormal creature she could
possibly be. Her confusion and angst permeates through the
novel. On the bright side, Kylie does discover and learn
to control quite a few new abilities.
This novel contains a love triangle, one that was left
unanswered in the first book. Should Kylie choose Lucas or
Derek? There are good and bad qualities to both boys, of
course. Kylie's heart is not pointing in either direction
at the beginning of the novel. Will she make a choice
sometime at the end of this novel?
As a character, Kylie is impressive. She doesn't come off
as overly obsessed with boys or whiny, she tends to be
smart, teachable, and can have a bit of a cold exterior
when she wants to be alone. Her two best friends continue
to look out for her and they help Kylie through quite a few
difficult events in this book.
Overall, any reader who enjoyed the first book or like
paranormal teen romance is likely going to enjoy AWAKE AT DAWN.
Now that she’s settled in at Shadow Falls Camp, Kylie
Galen’s determined to discover the extent of her
supernatural abilities. But with a ghost insisting someone
Kylie loves is about die, a rogue vampire on a murdering
rampage, and her sixth sense telling her someone is
watching
her, Kylie’s quest for answers is quickly put on hold.
To make matters worse, just when she’s about to give her
heart to Derek, a half-fairy, he starts pulling away. When
Lucas, a werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past,
returns, Kylie’s feels more conflicted than ever. Her
weekend with her mom should have been the just the break
Kylie needs, but it turns out to be her breaking point.
