Does anyone ever think about the bully's thoughts and
feelings? Should anyone have to? This book is almost an
attempt to answer those questions. Niko Kaylor is angry
and hateful. He continues to bully those who he considers
to be weaker than him despite repeated warnings. In a last
ditch attempt to get him to understand the hate he is
perpetrating, Niko is made to write a journal by his
therapist, school, and mother. Niko finds no solace in the
act of writing, he manages to make it as mangled and cruel
as he possibly can.
One day, Niko takes it much too far, resulting in his
removal from the school and enrollment in a reform school.
Niko learns what it feels like to become the victim, but is
it enough to change his point of view?
This book is certainly interesting. Parents and children
alike will find plenty of topics to talk about via this
novel, it would be great to read with a parent or mentor.
The author's writing style is infused with humor, the
reader will enjoy this quality immensely. This book is
recommended to middle grade readers and their parents.
