Mystery Cozy

Clara left Finn's Harbor hoping to escape the family curse, otherwise known as the Quinn Sense. The Quinn women were known for inheriting psychic abilities. But Clara considered her paranormal gift more of a curse than a gift and moved to New York hoping to leave her family legacy behind. But when she finds herself back at Finn's Harbor, she must face her demons when a woman is accused of murder and Clara is the only one who can save her using the Quinn Sense.

Clara's cousin, Stephanie, convinces Clara to work for her at the Raven's Nest bookstore. But on her first day on the job, Clara finds a dead body in the basement. The victim was Ana Jordan, the owner of a nearby store who was outraged that the Ravens sold occult books. The police's main suspect is Stephanie's employee, Molly, who threatened Ana before her death. Also, Ana was murdered with Molly's Edgar Allan Poe bust.

Clara and Stephanie know Molly is innocent, but Molly is still Detective Dan Petersen's main suspect. It's up to Stephanie and Clara to clear Molly's name. Stephanie urges Clara to use her Quinn Sense to keep her friend from going to prison. Even without the Quinn Sense, Clara and Stephanie immediately begin gathering clues. First there's John Halloran who lost his business when Ana started a malicious rumor about him. Ana's slander also cost John his family. Soon after losing his business, his wife divorced him and moved to California with their children.

Rick Sanders, the owner of a local hardware store is also considered a suspect. Rick used to work for Ana but was fired after he was accused of stealing. The Quinn Sense immediately tells Clara that she shouldn't believe anything Rick says. But the Quinn Sense clashes with Clara's feelings when she finds herself unexpectedly attracted to him. Although Clara finds herself defending Rick, she begins to suspect he may be following her around town.

Mystery and paranormal lovers will love this first novel in a new series. Allison Kingsley delivers a compelling mystery with the perfect dose of the paranormal. Clara's fear of her psychic abilities makes this novel stand out among the genre. The author uses Clara's abilities in moderation and makes the murder of Ana Jordan the highlight of the book. Set in a sleepy town in Maine, MIND OVER MURDER is the perfect cozy mystery to curl up with after a long day. Congratulations to Ms. Kingsley! MIND OVER MURDER is simply marvelous!

SUMMARY

Cousins and best friends, Clara and Stephanie Quinn run The Raven's Nest Bookstore, where people go to find their most coveted reads. But they have no idea it's the psychically-gifted Clara who's reading them... The bookstore has made an enemy of the town crier, Ana Jordon, who claims that the store's occult collection is "poisoning" the town's youth. Meanwhile, the store's number-one employee, Molly, has made no secret of her anger over Ana's antics. So when Ana is found dead, killed by the bust of Edgar Allen Poe sculpted by Molly, the evidence is stacked against her. And Clara must rely on her gift to make sense of this senseless murder...
