Fans have been following Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld
series since 2001 with the release of Bitten. The series
brings the readers on adventures with many different
paranormal entities including werewolves, vampires, and
half-demons. The latest release, SPELL BOUND, follows a
young lady we have watched grow up since the age of twelve.
The infamous Savannah Lavine has grown from a gawky
teenager into a beautiful young woman who happens to be one
of the most powerful supernatural beings in the world. But
what will she do when her number one assets is removed from
her arsenal?
SPELL BOUND starts immediately at the conclusion of the
previous book, Waking the Witch. She assumed the
issues she
just resolved closed the book on that case, but she was
wrong. And now she would suffer because her spell casting
abilities have disappeared into thin air. Savannah and Adam
soon discover that the enemy they discounted on their
previous case was still very much in the picture and had
them at a disadvantage. Savannah now has to solve the
mystery behind the Supernatural Liberation Movement while
trying to figure out what happened to her powers. All of
this without getting those around her that she loves
injured or worse, killed.
This story is filled with the characters we have grown to
love through out the series. Many of the past stories came
back into play. It was a joy to relive all the
personalities we have met along the way and watching them
interact. My favorite has to be when Savannah and Cassandra
trade witty remarks about each other's character. The most
important part of the story is watching Savannah grow from
the spoiled teenager into a mature member of the team. She
makes mistakes through out the adventure but truly tries to
remedy her mistakes. We also get to see the relationship
between Savannah and Adam blossom from undeniable
friendship into something more.
I have always been a fan of Savannah. She is an intelligent
and powerful character within the world that Armstrong has
created. I enjoy being able to follow her as more then a
secondary character. Since the news that this series will
be taking a hiatus after the next book, titled 13, I
will be
interested to see where Armstrong decides to end the story.
One thing is for sure, I will be at the store on release
day so I can find out how it all ends.
Savannah Levine is in terrible danger, and for once she’s
powerless to help herself. At the heartbreaking conclusion
of Waking the Witch, Savannah swore that she would give up
her powers if it would prevent further pain for a young
orphan. Little did she know that someone would take her up
on that promise.
And now, witch-hunting assassins, necromancers, half-demons,
and rogue witches all seem to be after her. The threat is
not just for Savannah; every member of the Otherworld might
be at risk. While most her fellow
supernaturals are circling the wagons at a gathering of the
council in Miami, Savannah is caught on the road, isolated
from those who can protect her and unable to use her vast
spell-casting talent, the thing she counts on most. In a
story that will change the shape of the Otherworld forever,
Armstrong gathers Elena, Clay, Paige, Lucas, Jamie, Hope,
and other beloved characters, who soon learn that the
greatest threat to supernaturals just may come from within.
