Romance Paranormal

Knox Devereaux, leader of vampires, will do anything to get his hands on an antidote to the 'vaccine' that is slowly starving his people to death, even work with the government that created the problem in the first place.

Felicia has a history with Knox, but she also is one of the Agencies best hostage negotiators, as well as being trained in all the skills an agent must have in the field. With the hodgepodge crew the agency has put together, her skills as a negotiator may be the most important.

Knox feels an obligation to mate with a vampire and help strengthen his race. Felicia refuses to share him with another woman. Both disregard the power of the bond they feel to one another.

Once the group is put together for the initial briefing and the data is shared, they realize the complexity and ramifications of the situation are bigger and more dire than they thought possible. Paranormals of all types are being detained and suffering through cruel experiments in another country, one with even fewer scruples than the United States. These same scientists have the antidote, one that will shift the balance of power toward the paranormal residents of the United States.

Virna DePaul has put together an interesting mix of characters as well as an intense and tightly-plotted paranormal thriller. Although the central love story between Knox and Felicia was well written (and hot, very hot) I found myself even more interested in the relationship dynamics of the characters one step removed from center stage, dynamics that hopefully will be explored in upcoming books. The other members of the team are not your cookie- cutter werewolf and creatures of the night, but three- dimensional characters with well-defined quirks and personality. CHOSEN BY BLOOD is book one of the Para-Ops novels, and has me panting for more.

SUMMARY

United by fate. Bound by desire.

Five years after the Second Civil War ends, humans and otherborn— humanlike creatures with superhuman DNA—still struggle for peace. To ensure the continued rights of both, the FBI forms a Para-Ops team with a unique set of skills.

Leader of an Otherborn clan, half-breed vampire Knox Devereaux would do anything to find a cure for the anti- vamp vaccine slowly starving his people into extinction. When the FBI contacts him about leading a team of hand- selected Others on a mission to reclaim the stolen antidote, Knox accepts. His new assignment places him in direct contact with Special Agent Felicia Locke, the beautiful human he’s craved since their very first meeting.
