Romance Series | Romance Suspense

Maggie Scott went into hiding after watching her husband murder her brother. She's changed her hair color and her name, added contacts, and ran as far as she could. She's found a haven in the Pacific Northwest until Cooper Grant comes to town and starts asking questions.

Cooper Grant can't figure out this woman who had it all. Money, wealth, and a doting husband. He wonders why she left but not too much. Cooper has just been drifting through life. He works as a PI when he feels like it. Otherwise, he is on his boat. He intends to fulfill his father's dream. The money he was offered to find Maggie will go a long way to make that possible.

Cooper is asked to stay close to Maggie until the man who hired him can get there. What he's been told about her doesn't fit but it's good to know she has a brother who loves her so much. Only when his employer arrives does Cooper learn that it isn't Maggie's brother. It's her domineering, manipulative husband; the man she's trying to escape.

Cooper and Maggie will have to work together to rid themselves of her abusive husband before they can truly explore the feelings between them.

As I was reading this book, I kept wondering why Cooper didn't question the veracity of his employer. It bothered me that a PI would be that trusting. As the story progressed, some facts about Cooper were revealed and I was more forgiving of his lack of interest. He more than made up for it by helping Maggie bring Jeremy down. Justine Davis has made a name for herself in the romantic suspense field and this book didn't disappoint.

SUMMARY

Maggie Scott knows better than to trust again. When her marriage deteriorated, she went on the lam. Hiding out in the Pacific Northwest, she thinks she's safe. She even finds herself falling—just a little—for a laid-back boat bum who makes the Puget Sound his temporary home.

For Cooper Grant, working as a private investigator simply means more time on his boat—until he meets Maggie. After taking on the job of finding her for the man he believes is her brother, he realizes he's in over his head. And as the perfect storm of danger and deception is thrust upon them, keeping her safe becomes his obsession….
