The folks in Bright's Pond are at it again. Chief of Police
Mildred Blessing has another mystery to solve in this small
backwoods Pennsylvania town. Gilda Saucer is renting a house
in town and everyone is curious to know why she is here. She
just doesn't seem the type to want to live in a small town.
Her tight, short skirts, updo of blond curls, and extreme
makeup make her appear to be what most of the townspeople
are calling a "hussy." When they learn that she is there
because her fiance is in the local nursing home, even more
curiosity stirs.
Walter Hughs took a bad fall up at the old mine shaft while
looking for buried treasure. He's been in a coma at
Greenbrier Nursing Home for two weeks. Gilda is in Bright's
Pond waiting for him to recover so that they can get
married. Coincidentally, Walter just happens to be Stella
Kincaid's brother whom she has not seen in ten years. It
took the nursing home two weeks to track her down.
Another coincidence occurs when pilot Cliff Cardwell makes
an emergency landing on Hector's Hill just outside of town.
The people of Bright's Pond just don't trust either one of
these outsiders. And when they learn that Walter was looking
for buried treasure, they begin trying to connect the two
newbies to some shady dealings. But Griselda Sparrow finds
Mr. Cardwell and his plane fascinating, and sets out to
change everyone's mind about him. Griselda is not so sure
about Gilda Saucer. The entire town gets caught up in the
hunt for buried treasure and in trying to keep Walter and
Gilda from getting married.
GRISELDA TAKES FLIGHT is a comical but touching,
whimsical yet inspirational story of mystery, adventure and
a little romance on the side. Griselda learns to
fly in more ways than one. You'll love this delightful tale,
the third in Joyce Magnin's Bright's Pond series.
Now that her morbidly obese sister, Agnes, is dieting in a
nursing home, its Griselda's turn to fly! But her new found
freedom is interrupted when a saucy gold digger drops into
town with her sights set on Stella Kincaid's newly rich
brother Walter. The fur really begins to fly when Chief of
Police, Mildred Blessing, does some investigating and the
truth about Griselda's flight instructor, Cliff Cardwell,
and Gilda Saucer is revealed.
