The first impression was of a forlorn, rather lonely but
beautiful home badly in need of care and nurturing. Rather
prophetic, considering that seemed to be her impression of
the man Jane Harper, a life coach, had been hired by his
agent to help get his life in order and rejoin the living.
Lenny Paxton was a former NFL quarterback for a team that
lost the Super Bowl when his last snap didn't connect with
the receiver, throwing his NFL career and his life in the
dumps. Contracts were not being honored and there was the
decidedly unattractive media exposure -- a possible
impediment toward getting sponsorships now that his career
had come to an inauspicious end. But what the public
didn't know, what Lenny had been carefully hiding, was the
personal turmoil he was going through. The media saw a
losing jock who turned to liquor and whose life was
on a downward spiral. Made for good copy. But in truth, the
behind the scenes portion of Lenny's life was impacting him
perhaps even more than the demise of his career.
Entering Lenny's cluttered house and life, Jane realized
this was someone who really needed her help even if he was
less than gracious, bordering on downright rude and scary.
Good at her job, Jane was not going to back down from a
challenge. But Lenny was determined to maintain this
self-imposed safety net and wasn't above putting roadblocks
in Jane's path. And there were plenty of those, Jane
realized as she managed to extend her time at Lenny's home
pretty much day-by-day. He was surrounded by things and
people not necessarily doing him any harm, but not helping
him get on with his life either. He kept up rather strange
ongoing relationships with his
three ex-wives and even these women weren't privy to
secrets he kept close to his heart. It became a game of
wits and brains between Lenny and Jane. It was going to
take a lot of digging to get past the superfluous and get
to the root of Lenny's problem. Jane
felt her usual professional distance waning as the real
Lenny was uncovered layer by layer. This was a man she
could not only help with his life but who could become
important to hers. Lenny knew that Jane wasn't by nature a
risk taker and becoming a part of his life would require
her to take a major leap of faith and put her heart at
risk. Neither was the others type, but love is all about
stepping out of your comfort zone -- so let the games begin.
If this is the first book you've read by Lenora Worth it
will surely make you a fan and whet your appetite for more.
Putting up a petite non-sports follower against a
quarterback made for some truly endearing and comedic
moments.
Jane Harper has landed the job of a lifetime. The supporting team around Lenny Paxton is desperate to get the star quarterback on the gridiron again. If she can convince him where everyone else has failed, this life coach will finally get the recognition she deserves. But a high-profile case like this isn't without its pitfalls. The biggest being Lenny. He's stubbornly refusing her efforts, and since they're on his turf, he has home- field advantage. Worse, the spark of attraction between them is very distracting. Good thing Jane is as determined to succeed as he is to resist. Her plan is business first, then pleasure…lots and lots of pleasure!
