Inspirational Historical

Michael Archer makes a promise to Ben Carstairs as Ben is on the gallows awaiting his hanging for a crime he did not commit. Michael promises to return a necklace that belonged to Ben's mother and to tell Ben's father, Sam Carstairs, that he has forgiven him for the way he treated Ben and the ugly things Sam did. The journey to Riverbend would yield far more for Michael than just delivering a necklace and a message.

Sam Carstairs is on a business trip when Michael arrives in Riverbend, so he hangs around town for a few days waiting for him. During this time, he meets Rachel Stone. Rachel is new to Riverbend also, having been rescued from an unfortunate situation in Denver and is now living with the pastor and his family. There is an instant attraction between the two. But Michael is not sure he is worthy of such a beautiful woman, given his past. Rachel feels the same way, given her past. Can the two of them get beyond their past lives and find a common ground?

The town soon learns that Sam Carstairs has been kidnapped and forms a posse to look for him. Michael joins this posse, feeling he has a stake in finding Sam alive. The journey is grueling. The kidnappers are clever and lead the posse around in circles for days. During this time, the men learn a lot about themselves, a lot about trust in each other and trust in God. Some never make the return trip to Riverbend.

Learn why Sam was kidnapped and whether Michael is able to fulfill his promise and deliver Ben's message. Will Sam accept the message? This inspirational, historical novel by award-winning author Henry McLaughlin is a story about love, compassion and forgiveness; a story about putting your faith and trust in God during difficult times. It's a compelling story that will touch your heart and help you see that God can change lives.

SUMMARY

Michael Archer is nothing if not a man of his word. Though he was unable to save Ben Carstairs, Michael is determined to carry out Ben’s dying wish: to be reconciled with his father. Unfortunately, Sam Carstairs, one of the most ruthless businessmen on the frontier, has no use for his own son, much less a man of God seeking reconciliation. Soon after arriving in Riverbend, Michael meets and falls for the stunning Rachel Stone while waiting for Sam to return from a business trip. Beautiful yet guarded, Rachel seems to be running from a past as dark as Michael’s. When word reaches town that Sam has been kidnapped on the stagecoach home, Michael offers to join the search party formed by the local sheriff. With a budding romance behind him and a dangerous rescue ahead of him, he sets out on the trail, determined to complete his journey no matter the cost.
