Thriller Crime | Paranormal Thriller

Arlen Wagner is cursed with being able to look in someone's eyes and see if they will die soon. After seeing this in all of his fellow passengers on a train bound for a work project in the Florida Keys, he abandons the train. Only 19- year-old Paul Brickhill believes in Arlen's visions and exits with him. As they continue their trek to southern Florida, they accept a ride from a stranger, which leads eventually to the Cypress House, run by the very lovely and very mysterious Rebecca Cady. Their plans are further disrupted when the stranger is murdered and a devastating hurricane hits the area.

Offering to repair the storm damage to the Cypress House property places Arlen and Paul directly in harm's way. They soon find the locals are none too friendly, especially those sworn to uphold the law who are supposedly investigating the murder. And Rebecca is keeping some very dangerous secrets that could get her killed, as well, unless she can outwit the criminals and their illicit plans. Since both Paul and Arlen have become so deeply involved with Rebecca, neither of them can leave her to face the dire circumstances alone. Now, all three of their lives are in danger, unless Arlen can devise a plan that will save them. The series of events that transpire are increasingly fraught with nerve-wracking suspense.

Michael Koryta has penned a paranormal tale of suspense that hooks readers from the first page and never lets go until the final word. He has a unique way of blending supernatural elements with believable characters, an eerie setting and a hypnotic plot premise. THE CYPRESS HOUSE is sure to be a winner from this talented author!

SUMMARY

A journey to Florida's coast becomes an inescapable nightmare in the newest supernatural thriller from international bestseller Michael Koryta.

Arlen Wagner has seen it in men before--a trace of smoke in their eyes that promises imminent death. He is never wrong.

When Arlen awakens on a train one hot Florida night and sees death's telltale sign in the eyes of his fellow passengers, he tries to warn them. Only 19-year-old Paul Brickhill believes him, and the two abandon the train, hoping to escape certain death. They continue south, but soon are stranded at the Cypress House--an isolated Gulf Coast boarding house run by the beautiful Rebecca Cady--directly in the path of an approaching hurricane.

The storm isn't the only approaching danger, though. A much deadlier force controls the county and everyone living in it, and Arlen wants out--fast. But Paul refuses to abandon Rebecca to face the threats alone, even though Arlen's eerie gift warns that if they stay too long they may never leave. From its chilling beginning to terrifying end, The Cypress House is a story of relentless suspense from "one of the best of the best" (Michael Connelly).
