Matt Royal has many friends and a few are close and loyal.
Matt has just returned from a week out on his boat with a
female friend to discover his best friend, Logan, has been
shot, but not killed. It is only natural that Matt would
want to find out who shot Logan and why they were trying to
kill him, but when someone starts taking shots at him, he
has to step up his game before he has no game left.
Matt has no clue why someone is after him. The shooters are
a bunch of bikers. In between fending off snipers and
digging into the mystery, he learns someone killed a lawyer
and an elderly man he had met on a previous escapade is in
town to visit him. Unfortunately, someone has hit the poor
old guy in the head and he is in a coma. And this whole
mess has something to do with the old guy. This takes Matt
and Logan in a new direction.
The police chief wants Matt to talk with his newest
detective, J.D. Duncan, who is assigned to his case. At
first Matt doesn't like J.D. He finds her a bit too bossy,
although quite good-looking. Numerous attempts on Matt's
life means he has to bring in the big gun, his friend Jock,
who has ties to secret parts of the U.S. government. J.D.
has to look the other way, but soon understands that stiff
measures are sometimes definitely needed. And Matt is the
one to do it.
BITTER LEGACY is jam-packed with death attempts coming at
Matt from all angles. He left the snarly courtrooms to
retire in West Florida so he could fish and have drinks
with his buddies. His life is nothing less than exciting.
He is barely able to rest. H. Terrell Griffin
continues with his successfully humorous and exciting
mystery series. Matt Royal is charming, resourceful and
resilient. It looks like this new character, J.D., might
add more spice to his life. I anxiously wait to see what
the next Matt Royal story will bring. That it will be
exciting and entertaining is certain. Griffin is a definite
for my keeper shelf!
After a week away, Matt Royal's ready to get back to the
Longboat Key good life-good fishing, good food, good beer,
and more good fishing. But Matt comes back to bad news:
while he was away, a sniper tried to kill one of his best
friends.
Even worse, now that Matt's back, someone's trying to kill
him. And whoever is trying to kill him is trying really
hard.
With no clue who's after himor why, Matt soon finds he's at
the center of a mystery involving a lawyer's murder, a
tourist left for dead, a ruthless biker gang, a reclusive
billionaire with nothing to lose, and an ancient document
that could bring ruin to some of the most entrenched
financial interests in Florida.
Between solving the mystery and staying alive, Matt's got
his hands full. But he'd better watch out or his hard-
charging ways could get him sideways with the newest member
of Longboat Key's police force, the undeniably attractive
Jennifer Duncan.
For Matt, it's shaping up to be a really long week.
