Eve Wilson has been through more in her life that anyone
should ever have to experience. Viciously assaulted by a
dangerous serial killer, she hid behind the virtual world of
the Internet where no one could see her scars. Even though
her physical scars no longer show, her inner scars are
another story entirely. In spite of this, or maybe because
of it, she's chosen to major in psychology and is running a
study of the virtual world and the people that play in it.
Now, suddenly, it seems that several of her "test" subjects
are committing suicide. Quite quickly, it becomes clear
that these are not suicides but are, instead,
twisted murders by one of the most unique serial killers
ever invented by a writer.
Detective Noah Webster carries his own demons even as he
works tirelessly to find the person responsible for these
murders. He is drawn to the damaged, but brave, Eve.
Together, they dive into the virtual realm of Shadowland, an
online community for people to pretend to be what they
aren't. This is also the place from which a very dangerous
serial killer is culling his victims, and there is no way to
tell who he is.
As Noah and Eve work closely together to end this killer's
reign of terror, they find themselves acknowledging some
deep feelings for each other. Noah wants to give into them
and see where it leads them. Eve, on the other hand, is
positive that her past makes her too damaged to ever be with
anyone, and has resigned herself to a life filled only with
friends. When it becomes clear that Eve is the killer's
next target, she may have to re-think everything she's
believed about herself.
Karen Rose is no stranger to the world of romantic,
psychological suspense fiction. Each of her books is
a treat, and I CAN SEE YOU is no exception. In this
book, Ms. Rose has reached deep into her intensely vast
imagination and created a serial killer the likes of which
have not been seen in a book or on the screen. The fun
comes in in the form of a couple of subplots which throw a
true monkey wrench into it all.
This is not a book that you're going to figure out before
Ms. Rose is ready for you to. She holds all the cards close
to the vest until she absolutely has to let go of them. Just
when you think you know what's going on, you find out it was
nothing even CLOSE to what you were thinking.
Be prepared to live in this book while you're reading it
because it's not going to let go of you until the very end.
You'll be intrigued, frightened, and pulling for Eve and
Noah to take that final step to what they both want.
All in all, it's a much more than satisfying read. Do
yourself a favor and get a copy of I CAN SEE YOU.
Evie Wilson was the victim of the villain in DON'T
TELL, an assault which resulted in paralysis on one side
of her face. After her injury, Evie retreated into the
virtual realm, seeking refuge from the public eye by
interacting with online friends. Now, with the help of a
surgeon, Evie's face is restored and she is ready to
return to the real world. However, she remains connected
to the internet for her graduate thesis on using the
virtual world as therapy to improve self-esteem. She has
become an online shopkeeper who sells faces and bodies to
users interested in building a new avatar on a website
called "Another World." In her new role, Evie
maintains "surveillance" over her test subjects to ensure
they don't become too caught up in the intoxicating
virtual realm.
Meanwhile, homicide detective John Grace
has been investigating a string of suspicious suicides
that he believes are connected murders...
