Beth Ciotta made a fan of out of me with her quirky
character Eve, and the stories that revolved around her.
She is back in that same humorous mode with Kylie McGraw the
heroine in Ciotta's latest romantic comedy OUT OF EDEN.
Kylie, grew up in the small town of Eden, and never left to
have a grand adventure, and that is something she thinks she
wants more than anything else in the world. In fact she has
saved for her grand adventure twice. The first time she had
to use her savings to bail her beloved Grandmother out of
financial trouble, and now she finally has the money for her
trip, but there is one problem.
Her brother Spence who inherited the family shoe store that
Kylie really does love is off being a famous television
host, and really doesn't want to return to Eden, and settle
into the life of a shopkeeper of a long standing emporium
that is run much the same as it was when it was first
established. Kylie however after swearing to shake up her
life during a recent party bash at the local bar is more
than willing to start by shaking up things on the square
with the remodeling of the family shoe store.
What should be a relatively simple process turns into quite
a story, and Ms. Ciotta tells it with a flare that is unique
and will have you laughing while worrying over the potential
danger that might be entering in the Kylie's life and
shaking things up more than she ever bargained for.
Every heroine deserves a hero who rides in on his white
horse to save the day, and with the arrival of the new
police chief, Jack Reynolds Kylie gets her hero. Jack is
back in Eden after having been in New York fighting big city
crime for many years. Fortunately for the town of Eden Jack
is a wise and patient police chief who knows when to push
and when to back down a bit.
OUT OF EDEN was a truly delightful read that had a wonderful
blending of humor, romance, suspense, and characters that
were fully formed and seemed ready to jump off the pages and
into my real life. As I was coming to the end of Out of
Eden I was hoping I would get a sequel, and was delighted to
see that there will be one in my future.
Sometimes paradise isn't all it's cracked up to be.
That's
what I, Kylie McGraw, have discovered since sacrificing my
dreams of traveling the world to run the family shoe store.
But if I have my way, peaceful Eden, Indiana, is in for a
major shake-up….
It all began on my birthday, when I got
drunk and disorderly all over Eden's hunky new police chief
(and my former high school crush), Jack Reynolds. Then I may
have, in my Cosmo haze, witnessed a murder in progress. Now
I'm almost certain I'm being stalked by the mob, while
he-of-the-distracting-abs Jack continues to think I'm nuts.
However, there comes a time when a girl has to kick off her
sensible shoes (size 7, cushion insoles) and go after what
she wants. So if I can just survive long enough to put on my
sexy new red heels, that's exactly what I intend to do….
