Holiday excitement abounds at The Pennyfoot Hotel, and
Cecily Baxter is just hoping and prayer that this year's
celebrations will be peaceful and without drama. But it
just wouldn't be Christmas at The Pennyfoot if there wasn't
a murder afoot!
In Kate Kingbury's latest mystery, DECKED WITH FOLLY: A
SPECIAL PENNYFOOT HOTEL MYSTERY, her 17th installment in
the series, readers will be
transported back to pre-World War I England in a pleasant
mystery that is thrilling to the very last page.
Despite Cecily's prayers, the busy Christmas season is
disrupted when the body of Ian Rossiter is found floating
in the pond. A former employee of the hotel, Ian had been
lurking around, trying to have a word with Gertie McBride,
the mother of his twin children, but no one was a witness
to his watery demise. It's up to Cecily, her good friend
Madeline, and the staff of The Pennyfoot to set out to
clear Gertie's name, and find out who really murdered
Ian.
Meanwhile, The Pennyfoot guests are running amuk, the new
footman is a bit shady, and Constable Northcutt seems to be
always poking his nose into things he shouldn't, including
Mrs. Chubb's delicious pies! On top of everything, Ian's
wife, Gloria, has shown up with the news that she has no
where to go but The Pennyfoot, and could she stay while she
grieves for her no-good husband. Cecily truly has her hands
full this holiday season!
DECKED WITH FOLLY is full of twist and turns, just as a
good mystery should be. There is also a great deal of
British humor sprinkled among the pages. If you are a fan
of the British comedy, "Fawlty Towers," you can almost
imagine The Pennyfoot Hotel being much the same type of
establishment as Sybil and Basil's. I was thoroughly
charmed by this delightful story.
Make room for murder with all the trimmings in the
latest of the Pennyfoot Hotel Christmas mystery
series.
It's the holiday season and the
Pennyfoot staff is brimming with anticipation. The scents of
the season overflow from the kitchen and the country club's
halls are decorated with festive displays thanks to Cecily's
dear friend Madeline. But when one of Cecily's candlesticks
disappears, she realizes someone is lacking in Christmas
spirit.
Petty thievery seems the least of Cecily's
problems after she learns a former employee has been found
dead in her duck pond. He hasn't worked at the Pennyfoot in
years, but his ex-wife is still their head maid-and now she
heads the list of suspects. And when Madeline has a vision
of more misfortune to come, Cecily starts feeling more
jinxed than jolly. Now a killer and a thief must be taken
off the guest list in order to put the merry back into
Christmas.
