Even in magical realms, status and stereotypes abound.
Aurora was born to be the Earth Balancer, someone who could
remove the taint of Gray Gods who had been "turned" to evil
by malevolent forces. She knows her job and does it well.
However, recently the work has been overwhelming.
Mobius, Light God and Director of the Divine Council, has
to do something or the ailing Light Gods may be no more. He
sees in Aurora the soul of his dead beloved, Meri, and vows
to make right for Aurora the mistakes he made with Meri.
Although half-deity, Aurora has been raised on Earth;
therefore, Mobius' intentions are unknown to her, and she
doesn't know whether to run from him or into his arms as he
attempts to protect her from forces beyond her control that
threaten to tear her apart.
DARKNESS RISING does a good job of immediately placing the
reader into an unfamiliar mythos with easy exposition and
character introduction. The pantheon of belief is very
interesting: deities from various cultures and societies
are real, but they all bow to the Source. Christian, Wiccan
and other references abound peacefully throughout the
novel. The storyline itself is a steamy foray into magic,
jealousy and the world's salvation.
In a battle between good and evil, two souls are
inexorably drawn together to mate and bond.
He is a god, and he embodies everything the word implies.
Everything. That makes Aurora a very lucky woman. Because
Mobius wants her - not for her ability to neutralize the
dark forces of the Umbrae, or for her kick-butt approach
to the Finders wreaking havoc all over Earth. No, he wants
to protect her, to harmonize their seperate energies, to
show her exactly what it means to be perfectly attuned to
another being. In a realm where creating a sexy little red
dress is as easy as thinking it, the mind is the most
powerful tool of all. And Aurora will use hers to
tantalize her lover, outwit their enemies, and defeat,
the...Darkness Rising.
