In SEA LORD, Conn Ap Llyr is Prince of the Selkie, a dying
race of children of the sea. Lucy Hunter is human, a
child of a sea witch Atagatis and a mortal man. Conn is
shown in a vision that Lucy is important to his people and
to him although he doesn't know how. He travels from his
island of Sanctuary the sea town Lucy lives in with her
alcoholic father and her brothers. Lucy is a grade school
teacher living with her father, while her brothers have
each married and live in the seaside town that Lucy cannot
seem to leave. Conn appears one day and, using his allure,
asks Lucy to come away with him, but, Lucy seems
unaffected. Conn is amazed. Lucy is lonely, and wants
someone to love her, but, is resigned to being alone, but
finds Conn very attractive and sexy. Conn begiles her to
have sex with him, and then he puts a sleeping spell on
her. She wakes up on a ship on it's way to Sanctuary where
Conn feels she needs to be according to a prophecy that
says the daughter of Atagatis will change the balance of
power between the elements, and Conn wants the balance of
power shifted to the children of the sea, the water
elements.
The struggle between Conn, wanting to help his people, and
Lucy, never having released the power she doesn't
understand is compelling. The love that develops between
Conn and Lucy is powerful. I couldn't put the book down
until the story was complete. A wonderful story of
devotion, love and family.
