With her newest book, WEDDINGS IN THE FAMILY author Tessa
McDermid takes readers into the private relationship
between a husband and his wife. Ms. McDermid tells the
majority of the story from Caroline's point of view, but
never fails to be sure that readers know and understand her
husband's viewpoint as well.
It starts with Caroline and her husband
Nick meeting in what Caroline thinks is an accident, and
ends with their youngest child getting married and
beginning to embark on her own adventure.
It's the wedding that has Caroline reflecting back on her
life, and her fear of people moving out of her life. As a
youngster Caroline had to move a lot and as such was always
the new person in town, and truly unable to put down the
roots which now are so important to her. With her daughter
getting married is yet another person leaving her life, or
is there yet more life to live with her husband, and
perhaps her growing family.
Ms. McDermid wrote a book that truly touched my heart, and
as I finished the story I had tears in my eyes making it
hard to finish. As I read I truly didn't think that one
relationship was left untouched, from Caroline and her
mother, to Caroline and her father, to Caroline and her
best friend. Each thread was woven so tightly together
that I had trouble setting the book aside.
From what I can quickly tell Ms McDermid has only written
two books, and I for one hope there are many more to come.
Caroline Eddington faces a difficult decision. On the eve of
her daughter's wedding, Caroline admits that her marriage to
Nick could be over. The timing couldn't be worse, yet with
an empty nest looming their problems seem bigger than ever.
Still, something holds her back—something as simple as love.
Remembering their own vows, their hope, Caroline knows
Nick's been there through the good and the bad. But is that
enough? Or have they grown so far apart, love alone can't
bring them together again?
