The lady Evelyn is a High Priestess in the order of the
Lord of the Light. She leads the revolution against the
tyrannical reign of the High Baroness Elanore. Elanore has
started making odium, a dead body imbued with enough of a
spirit to follow orders and protect her borders. With the
help of an anonymous source, Evelyn has been captured by
the Scourge of the Palins, Orrin Blackhart.
Orrin has done some dreadful deeds in the name of his
Baroness. His body is tired and his soul is weary of the
evil he sees the Baroness turning to. When his men capture
the High Priestess, he regrets the steps he will have to
take.
At the last moment, Orrin receives word that the Baroness
is dead. He and his men are all that remain. In exchange
for the return of the Priestess, he negotiates a deal
allowing his mens' lives.
The Chosen is about to pronounce the sentence of death when
the Lady of Laughter lets Evelyn know that she needs to
save his life.
Orrin is released with the task of killing all the
remaining odium. Evelyn is banished by the Bishop of her
order to a remote sanctuary to contemplate her sins. When
she is attacked by odium, Orrin and her men are able to
reach her just in time. What they learn will require that
they work together to destroy the source of the odium.
