U.S. foreign agent Sam Chase is in Baghdad waiting for her
next assignment. Things are not great since she is stuck in
the U.S. embassy where mortar fire surrounds her. She was
expected to be stationed next in Paris, France but is
surprised that her next orders are for her to report to CIA
headquarters at Langley in McLean, Virginia. Sam excels at
her job, but also has a deep dark secret she keeps hidden.
She hears a voice in her head that speaks to her out of the
blue when something bad is about to happen. The voice comes
to her telling her to get out of the embassy. She does and
watches as a bomb goes off inside of the building. Sam is
stunned, but has no time to digest what has happened for two
commandos grab her and place her on a plane back to the
states. Sam has no choice but to go with them since she is
afraid she may be killed if she refuses.
When she arrives in Washington D.C., she is greeted by an
albino woman who only goes by the name Ms. Z. Ms. Z knows
about Sam's secret and blackmails Sam. If Sam doesn't join
her organization, AngelWay, Sam will be charged with
treason. Ms. Z wants Sam to use her special voice to
investigate a very bizarre crime that deals with grave
robbing. Also to aid in the investigation is three other
women who also have special gifts.
Investigating the crime is forensic investigator for the
Department of Defense, Lance "Bear" Rutledge. Bear is
getting the run around from Ms. Z and he doesn't like it one
bit. He finds Ms Z and the women working for her to be very
strange with their talk of magic and dead bodies walking out
of their graves. The only one who seems reasonable is Sam
and even then he thinks she is a bit off. But if they can
work at partners they may have a good chance at breaking the
case.
Both Bear and Sam team up and have entered into a dangerous
world of voodoo and zombies who eat human flesh. Sam has to
come to terms with the voice that continues to warn her
against danger and of Bear who she has become so attractive
to. Bear is a non-believer for anything dealing with the
supernatural, that is until he is a witness to the dead
soldiers who rise from their graves.
DARK NIGHTS, DARK DREAMS is an interesting police procedural
with a supernatural twist. The dead are rising and out for
blood, and it is up to some very talented and misunderstood
women to come to the rescue. Sam Chase is a very intelligent
and strong woman who has entered into a world that is scary
and unknown. She has been forced into something she wants no
part of, but deals with what is thrown her way. She has a
great support with Bear who may be a bit stubborn and all
man, but he works with Sam and is understanding to her
needs. He also helps Sam with the other physical needs that
has grown between the two.
Savannah Russe has written and tension filled and action
pack story with a nice romance. The atmosphere is dark and
the outcome of the crimes will keep you glued to the pages.
DARK NIGHTS, DARK DREAMS will have you looking over your own
shoulder as the undead are being controlled and can only be
stopped by a group of women who have no choice before more
innocent lives are lost.
