"A hilarious yet realistic look at salvation and what it means to live saved in the AA church arena"

Reviewed by Patricia Woodside

Romance Contemporary, Multicultural Romance

Darrin Bainbridge wants to launch his journalism career with a splash. To do so, he needs a big story, one he thinks he's found when he learns of Bishop Kuman Prentiss and his Atlanta megachurch. With all those members—and all that money flowing through the pews—surely there's a scandal waiting to be uncorked.

But, even after getting his father to agree to finance this last venture and moving to Georgia, Darrin doesn't count on a few things, including encountering the Holy Spirit when he least expects it or the bishop's daughter, Emoni. Darrin's torn between sticking to his planned expose—something he needs to do to keep his father's coffers open until he can fill his own—and developing a lasting relationship with Emoni. What's a Mad Black Blogger to do?

Tiffany Warren hs put a fresh and illuminating spin on Christian fiction set in the African-American church. THE BISHOP'S DAUGHTER offers a realistic look at what salvation truly is and some of the challenges young adults face in learning to live saved. Telling the story from a male perspective added a dimension not explored enough in this genre. Throwing in the protagonist's hilarious blog posts made this story a hoot. I laughed and kept reading way into the wee hours of the night, unwilling or unable to separate myself from Darrin's antics until the story ended. I've already emailed the author to put in my personal plea for a sequel.

SUMMARY

Darrin Bainbridge is your typical playboy in need of love, but not yet ready. He is a freelance journalist trying to break his big story. After a visit from his mother, Darrin gets an idea. He has heard all kinds of stories about "Hollywood" ministers who hold their church services on television, live in nice houses, drive nice cars, and have lots of money and women. Darrin is disgusted by it all especially when his mother Priscilla starts shouting praises for Atlanta Bishop Kumal Prentiss. Darrin decides to go to Atlanta, become a member of the bishop's church, and expose him for the hustling fraud that he believes he is. He just never planned on falling in love with the Bishop's daughter.

Darrin suddenly finds himself torn between his new found friend and his possible big break.
