The Cackleberry Club is a small café run by three women:
Suzanne Dietz is a recent widow; Toni is in the middle of a
divorce; and, Petra's husband is in a nursing home with
Alzheimer's disease. These friends are closer than
family. The café is not only known for its excellent food,
especially their egg dishes, but The Cackleberry Club also
has a book shop and a knitting corner.
Bobby Waite, Suzanne's attorney, is murdered in the back
parking lot of the café just minutes after he had brought
in some papers for her to sign. Sheriff Roy Doogie does
not want any help from Suzanne in finding the killer, all
the while knowing she will be right in the middle of his
investigation. With the help of Bobby's receptionist,
Suzanne finds some questionable things in her husband's
folder. She knows she has to clear Walter's name, or
right any wrongs he might have done.
Bobby's murder is just the beginning of bad things
happening in Kindred --another death, a malicious cult
preacher, and a deadly fire. And, of course, the
Cackleberry Club ladies are smack dab in the middle of
everything.
