Mystery Amateur Sleuth

Alexis Peterson should be used to drama. After all, she is a regular on The Yearning Tide, a very successful soap opera. However, her main problem is Marcy Blanchard, the new head writer for the show. It seems that Marcy still holds a grudge against Alexis for stealing her boyfriend two decades earlier. It is no surprise when Alexis is told that she is in a scene, but she has no script, so she is off to confront Marcy about the missing script. Unfortunately, Alexis comes across a dead Marcy, one who has been bludgeoned to death with her Emmy. To make matters worse, the cast is willing to tell the police about the very loud argument between Alexis and Marcy the previous week, and that Alexis threw the alleged murder weapon at her nemesis. Is there anyone who thinks that she is not guilty? How can she prove her innocence?

Alexis has always liked crime shows, so she knows that she is the most likely suspect. The police do not seem to be any closer to finding the true murderer, and she is determined not to go to jail. She just needs to deflect the suspicion to someone else. The down side is that almost everyone in the cast had motive to murder Marcy as she was not a well-liked woman. Alexis's problem is that the more people she questions, the more and more she believes their side of the story. She always thought that she was a good judge of truth, but she cannot seem to figure out which of her cast mates may be lying to her. Are they that good at acting? Or is she looking in the wrong place for a murderer?

Eileen Davidson has crafted an entertaining mystery. Her role on a daytime drama allows her to give the readers a fantastic insight into the inner workings of soap operas. Alexis Peterson is a warm, lovable heroine that everyone will be cheering on. Although she is a veteran actress, she is a novice sleuth as is obvious by her efforts to clear her name. The rest of the characters are enjoyable, and you have quite a list to choose from as the murderer. DEATH IN DAYTIME is a fabulous mystery and the first of what is bound to be a fun, engaging series.
