Die hard fans of Linda Howard have been anxiously awaiting
her newest release, DEATH ANGEL. With its release Howard is
exploring the inner workings of the drug
world and paid assassins. Hopefully this isn't a topic
that most romance fans are intimately familiar with.
I do believe that Howard does a fair job of skimming the
intimacies of these worlds, but doesn't delve deep into
their inner workings. Instead she focuses on Drea
Rousseau, a beautiful young woman who has hidden her
feelings and intelligence in order to get what she can
from Rafael Salinas, an infamous crime figure best known
for his drug business.
Salinas is a cautious person, but not above using any
means to get what he wants. Now, what he wants is for one
of his competitors to be put out of business permanently.
To that end he is going to hire an assassin, but when the
man demands an afternoon of sex with Drea as part of his
payment will Salinas comply, and what about Drea's
feelings in the matter?
That one afternoon has consequences that go beyond what
any of the three can imagine. Who will have actually paid
the highest price? Drea, who has up to this point
believed she had no feelings or emotions that needed
expressing. Salinas, who is just out for what he can gain
through whatever means or Simon, the man Salinas wishes to
hire for the latest hit?
DEATH ANGEL is a valiant effort by Ms. Howard, but for me
while readable didn't provide quite the entertainment
factor that I needed. I personally had little effort
putting it aside to go about daily life. I hope that
when you read it you find it totally enthralling.
After she double-crosses her lover, a ruthless crime lord,
Drea must flee from a relentless assassin who ultimately
succeeds in killing her. But after a very brief death, Drea
returns to life a changed woman: no longer selfish and
cruel, determined to bring down the ones who marked her for
death. Joining forces with the FBI, little does she suspect
that the man she will come to love is the same assassin who
took her life.
