Philippa 'Flip' Allison, an ornithologist, needs something
more exciting in her life than just her birds. While
taking a coffee break with her friends, Flip finds herself
voicing her displeasure at their current book club
selection, Pride and Prejudice. She loves the romantic
story of Lizzy and Darcy, but there just seems to be some
spark missing between them, the same spark that she seems
to be missing so it may be her sex-deprived libido
talking. Unbeknownst to her, Dr. Magnus Knightley,
visiting professor and the Jane Austen authority, cannot
help but hear her outburst, and lets her know his opinion
on the matter. After being reprimanded by the smug British
professor, Flip is unable to concentrate on her work. When
she is directed to an ad for a massage telling you to
imagine yourself in your favorite book, she figures she has
nothing to lose. Flip needs to relax desperately.
Besides, she cannot wait to be inside that steamy romance
she was reading earlier. What harm could there be in
taking a little break from her work?
As Madame K works her magic on the massage table, Flip
finds herself slipping into Regency England and straight
into Darcy's arms. She figures that since she did not end
up in her steamy romance then she may as well add a little
spice of her own. Unfortunately, her little romantic
interlude finds itself in the pages of the first edition
copy of Pride and Prejudice, and Flip must figure out how
to fix it before she forever changes the course of the
classic tale and finds her darkest secrets printed for all
to read. She enlists the help of Magnus Knightley since he
is an expert on the work. Of course, she has to convince
him first that she is not delusional. How far is she
willing to go to bring the work back to its original
state? Will Madame K be able to help with the quandary
that she has accidentally created?
Gwyn Cready gives a new meaning to losing yourself in a
good book. She has created a unique tale that intertwines
the happenings of one of the most well known romances
written by Jane Austen, and the imaginings of one
sex-deprived woman. Flip and Magnus lead a zany cast of
characters in this humorous time travel adventure. There
is a definite chemistry between the two as they match
wits. The tale becomes even more amusing as Flip's ex-
husband and his current lover find themselves in the midst
of the action. SEDUCING MR. DARCY is a whimsical romance
that is absolutely enchanting. I genuinely enjoyed this
tale, and found myself laughing out loud quite often. I
hope to read more tales by Ms. Cready in the future.
Mr. Darcy just isn't Flip Allison's style. She prefers
novels that include hot sex on the bathroom sink to the
mannerly high-tension longing of Jane Austen's Pride and
Prejudice. That is, until she pays a visit to Madame K, who
promises a therapeutic massage with an opportunity to
"Imagine Yourself in Your Favorite Book." Somehow on the way
to a sizzling sink top session with a Venetian Adonis, Flip
lands right in the middle of Regency England--and
dangerously close to handsome Mr. Darcy. So close, in fact,
that she discovers you can't always judge a book by its
cover.
