Jake Crowley is a detective in Houston. Far enough away
from Maine to ignore his past, but not to forget it. Never
to forget it, or the family curse he left behind. Then his
uncle is beaten to death and the curse seems to have found
him again. He can't run anymore, so the only thing left to
do is go home. He has to face the girl he ran out on, the
family he left behind and the family curse -- an ancient
evil he must find a way to stop before it stops him and
everyone else in its path.
IN SHADOWS is my first book by McGrew, and I look forward
to many more. A longtime fan of Dean Koontz and Robert R.
McCammon, I enjoyed this story thoroughly and was sorry it
had to end. Jake's partner and the partner's grandmother
are lively additions to the cast, and the pivotal character
of a young boy named Pierce will tug on your heartstrings
from page one. A great read.
In a small Maine valley, thirteen-year-old Pierce Morin,
born blind and deaf, possesses a terrifying gift: he can
hear evil whispering–and knows an elusive, deadly force is
stalking the people he loves....
Detective Jake Crowley has run far away from his Maine
hometown. But a bizarre shootout in Galveston, Texas,
finally draws him home: to a woman he can barely face, to
the unsolved mystery of his mother’s murder, to a family
curse and a valley that’s fallen under the spell of a
serial killer.…
For Jake, redemption lies in unlocking Pierce’s gifts and
hoping the boy can show him the way to stop the terrors
that plague him. But while young Pierce can begin the
search, only Jake can finish it–by looking evil in the eye
and claiming both their birthrights...
