Bullet Catcher agent Adrien Fletcher is using his thirty-day
leave to help a friend with a case he is working,
instead of going home to Tasmania to talk with his
father. Fletch asks his boss, Lucy Sharpe, if he could
have access to her resources for finding people, etc.
Eileen Stafford is in prison on death row for a murder she
did not commit. She is dying of leukemia unless she can
find a bone marrow donor, and her best bet is a baby girl
that was taken from her and given to a black-market
adoption agency ring known as the Sapphire Trail. The
only identification Eileen can offer in the way of finding
her baby is that the child has a tattoo on the back of her
neck.
Jack Culver, persona non gratis at Bullet Catcher, is the
friend Fletch is assisting, and he has a list of possible
leads. He wants Fletch to find these women, while Jack is
working to find evidence of Eileen's innocence. Time is
running out for Fletch when he meets Dr. Miranda Lang, an
assistant professor of linguistic anthropology at USC
Berkley. Miranda has written a book debunking the ancient
Mayan long count calendar that supposedly marks the end of
the world on December 21, 2012. The Armageddon Movement,
a group of zealots who disagree with Miranda, are harassing
her at her book readings and signings, and are beginning to
get violent. Fletch rescues her and they end up having
dinner together; afterward she invites him home with her.
The romantic mood is spoiled when there is a cryptic Mayan
death warning smeared in blood on the front of her house.
Miranda has a very wealthy fan, Dona Talina Vasquez-Marcesa
Blake, who hosts a party for her at the Blake estate that
is a replica of real-life Maya ruins, complete with a rain
forest and pyramids. Talina seems obsessed with Miranda
and warns her that Fletch is after more than her soul.
Fletch's feelings about Miranda are getting serious, but he
needs to move on to the next name on his list. He truly
does have to choose between duty and following his heart.
Roxanne St. Claire weaves a good story and fills it with
interesting characters, suspense, superb narrative, and
spicy, spicy love scenes. FIRST YOU RUN has so many
twists and turns that the pages seem to rapidly flip
themselves over without help. This outstanding book is
the first of a new Bullet Catcher trilogy about the
Sapphire Trail babies, and it definitely will be a hard act
to follow.
A WOMAN HIDING A SECRET EVEN SHE DOESN'T
KNOW. A PASSION THAT BEGINS WITH DANGER....
Bullet
Catcher Adrien Fletcher is on a mission to track down a
baby given up in a black market adoption thirty years ago.
He has a list of possible names and one tantalizing clue:
the infant girl had been marked with a tiny tattoo. And
since tattoo-hunting will mean getting up close and
personal with the women on his list, he's the perfect man
for the job. But when Fletch meets Miranda Lang, he knows
she can never be just a name on his list. If she's not his
target, he should move on and find the right woman,
despite their electrifying attraction. But Miranda is on
her own mission, and every step takes her closer to a
deadly trap. Fletch may be the only man who can protect
her...forcing him to choose between duty and desire.
