Gillian Key is a Paramortal psychologist who heads up a team
of various creatures that range from Vampires, Werewolves
and Fey. This Special Force was handpicked to go into
Northern Russia and rescue orphaned children from child
traffickers after a major earthquake has hit the area. This
is an undercover mission that is very dangerous, especially
for Gillian since she is human and an easy target. As she
carries out her mission, her soon to be vampire lover, Count
Aleksei Rachlav, who resides in Romania, is always a shadow
in her mind. When they last kissed, Aleksei drank some of
her blood which now enables him to enter into her thoughts.
Gillian is an empath and has special mental powers that
allow her to be sensitive to others around her, mainly the
non-humans.
As her team carries on their mission throughout the Russian
countryside, they come upon all types from Brownies, other
Shifters and even a run in with a particular ugly looking
Weremoose. But Gillian and her special ops are able to
rescue some of the children even after a bloody battle.
Gillian is ready to rush back to Aleksei when another
situation arises. A collogue asks her to investigate some
paranormal activity at the most haunted house in all of
London. When Gillian arrives and enters the haunted house,
everything goes wrong. The next thing she knows, she is in
the hospital and at the hands of Jack the Ripper! Jack is
now a vampire and wants revenge for an insult Gillian gave
him when the last met. Again with the help of her motley
crew, they are able to escape by the skin of their teeth.
Aleksei welcomes back Gillian with open arms and takes their
relationship to the next level. But Gillian is always
watching her back because Count Dracula is waiting for the
right moment to snatch Gillian and use her for his own
means.
Talia Gryphon has taken many urban legends from past and
present and has written a story for the ultimate fan of
fantasy and the paranormal. KEY TO CONSPIRACY has non-stop
action where the characters hardly have the time to catch
their breath. Gillian is a very strong and intuitive
character that has the best lines, which lead to some
laughs, even though some readers may think this is a dark
novel.
There is a nice romance between Gillian and Aleksei that
shouldn't disappoint and when they come together, there are
some nice fireworks between the two. Even though the main
focus of the story is on Gillian, there are many other
characters who share the pages and bring some nice
creativity to the events as a whole.
KEY TO CONSPIRACY is one novel by newcomer Talia Gryphon
that should appeal to paranormal fans and enough of an open
ending to bring readers back for more.
