Romance | Paranormal

After years spent as a warrior, where blood and pain were his only companions, Dreux finally has a chance to find joy and peace when he marries the beautiful, gentle and loving Kynedrithe. Unfortunately, she believes he is a violent monster who would have destroyed her community unless she agreed to be his wife. But on their wedding night, Dreux shows her, with infinite patience, that he is a kind and passionate man who offers her both his undying love and his absolute trust.

Their happiness is short-lived, however. Dreux's half-brother, Kai has sworn to destroy Dreux to avenge the violent death of Maeve, Kai's mother, an evil fallen angel whom Kai believes died at Dreux's hands. Kai convinces Geoffrey, one of Dreux's knights, that Dreux will kill the gentle Kynedrithe, just as he killed Maeve, unless they kidnap her and bring Dreux to justice for his crimes. With Geoffrey's help, Kai successfully steals Kynedrithe from her marriage bed as dawn breaks, and while two of Kai's men hold Dreux immobile at the window of the tower, he pulls Kynedrithe into his arms and slits her throat. Geoffrey realizes his mistake a moment too late, and he stabs Kai with his sword as Kai plunges his dagger into Geoffrey.

In that moment of unbearable agony, Dreux's body turns into a statue of indestructible stone from which he cannot escape, and a thousand-year-old cycle begins in which Kai and Geoffrey wage a war to destroy each other but both resurrect whenever they are killed, and Kynedrithe is reborn once every hundred years with one chance to release her husband from his prison and reclaim the love she has lost.

Nine times Kynedrithe has died at Kai's hands, and the thousand years is almost at an end, but this time around, things have changed. After nearly dying at the hands of her violent ex-husband Sam, Kynedrithe, now Kalyss, is not the weak and gentle woman of her past. With the help of her best friend Alex, she has become strong, independent and powerful. She also has no memory of Dreux or her past lives. So when Kai shows up to kill her, she's more confused and angry than frightened, and able to fight back for the first time. Then Geoffrey arrives and she watches in horror as Kai kills him in front of her, buying her the time she needs to escape. Following instincts and images she doesn't understand, she discovers Dreux's statue in a nearby church, and on impulse, she kisses him, releasing him. But as delectable as he is in the flesh, Kalyss isn't about to believe the story he's telling her about who he is or about their history together; she just wants her life back. That means facing Kai, who not only wants to kill her, but is holding Alex hostage. As long-buried memories surface from her life and her past, Kalyss must decide which man she believes, which man she trusts, and which man she loves.

BETRAYED is a roller-coaster ride of adventure which is not to be missed. Kalyss is a wonderful modern heroine, made all the more appealing by the strength and determination which she had to discover inside herself in order to survive. Better still, Dreux is able to love her for who she has become, despite the fact that she is no longer the woman he married. The fast-paced action will keep you turning pages, but Kalyss and Dreux's emotional journey will touch your heart. Jamie Leigh Hansen is a bright new star in the world of paranormal romance!

SUMMARY

Trapped in Stone and tortured by grief...

A love found at first glance can last for lifetimes...

This is their last chance. After nine loveless lives and nine horrible deaths, Kalyss must save Dreux from his stone prison--or pass without him into an empty eternity.

When two strangers violently enter her life, Kalyss's gift awakens--along with the memory of her past lives--and she must learn who she can trust in order to break the cycle of hatred and betrayal that has held them captive for centuries. For only then can she free Dreux from his prison of stone.

But will Kalyss be strong enough, now that the last chance has arrived--now that she must face not only the pain of this life, but of all her lives before?
