Aggie Portrero and Nely Mendoza are the best of friends and
complete opposites. Aggie is single, has relationship
issues, and owns a stylish boutique. Nely is happily
married, has a beautiful daughter, and inherited a
controlling mother-in-law. Aggie has recently lost her
mother and longs for a family. She is a bit envious of
Nely's life, and she wants a husband and a baby. Nely is
constantly busy with the baby, and can't quite lose the
baby weight. She envies Aggie's slim figure and her
carefree lifestyle. The two friends schedule a weekend get
together at a New Age spa. They both need some time to
relax and reconnect. What trouble could some time away
from their commitments cause?
At the New Age spa, Aggie is adamant that they have to do
Guru Sauro's transcendental meditation. She wants to try
to contact her mother. Nely goes along with it only
because she knows how important this is for Aggie. During
the meditation, the guru decides to have a little
metaphysical fun. He switches Aggie's and Nely's bodies,
so that Aggie's spirit inhabits Nely's body and Nely's
spirit inhabits Aggie's body. When they corner the guru,
he tells them that he can reverse the switch at the next
full moon. How are they going to be able to cope in each
other's bodies? Can Aggie deal with a husband, child, and
mother-in-law? Will Nely be able to run a boutique?
Mary Castillo has written a magical story. Even though the
switching lives concept is an old one, Ms. Castillo puts a
new spin on it. Aggie and Nely provide a lot of
entertainment as they adjust to their new environments.
They soon realize how they take their lifestyle for granted
and miss those who are really important to them. The added
characters of Simon, Kevin, Audrey, and La Cacuy (the
mother-in-law) make life so much more interesting and
complicated. Ms. Castillo takes the reader on a
fascinating journey as two friends learn to appreciate
their routine lives when faced with the possibility of no
longer living them. SWITCHCRAFT is a fun, upbeat ride and
an exceptional tale of friendship.
Best friends since back in the day, Aggy and Nely are as
different as two women could possibly be. Aggie's slim,
stylish, and owns an upscale boutique and a long history of
no-strings relationships. Nely has a busy baby, a metiche
mother-in-law, and some extra post-pregnancy pounds she
can't quite shed. And when they reconnect at a New Age spa,
each friend finds herself wishing just a little that she had
the other one's life.
Big mistake!
Thanks to the metaphysical meddling of a somewhat grumpy
guru, Nely is now Aggie and Aggie is Nely—switching bodies,
love lives, families, closets . . . everything! The grass
may not be quite as green as it originally appeared. As luck
has it, they'll be stuck this way until the next full moon!
And with a husband, his very suspicious mama, a
temperamental tot, a business on the brink of disaster, and
a sort-of boyfriend—not to mention a sleazy stalker—thrown
into the mix, Aggie and Nely suddenly find they're not just
walking in each other's shoes . . . they're running!
