Still reeling from the brutal killing of her sister,
MacKayla (Mac) Lane is coming to terms with her newfound
powers and her place in the world; the other world where
the Fae walk among humans disguised by their faerie
glamour. But MacKayla can see them. She is part of an
ancient bloodline, the sidhe-seers who see the Fae for what
they are...evil. The seers stand as a last defense between
humans and the otherworldly warriors who seek to overrun
the earth. Mac can also sense faerie objects of power and
has been tracking down one of the Unseelie Hallows -- the
Sinsar Dubh, a book of black magic that will turn the tide,
one way or the other, in the war between human and Fae.
Helping Mac, and help may not be quite the right word here,
is Jericho Barrons. Barrons seems to be human and a little
more. A contemporary man with the knowledge of the ages
reflected in his eyes, Barrons trains, teaches and
sometimes uses her. Mac may not have a handle on who or
what Barrons is, but he seems to be on her side. He does
keep saving her life, but she has plenty of reason to
suspect him of a secret agenda.
Then there's the Order, the other seers who dangle
information in front of her like a lure. Mac is tempted by
their knowledge and sisterhood, but holds back although she
isn't sure quite why. As baddies drop out of the woodwork,
vying to grind her bones, Mac seriously needs someone or
something to tell her what in the hell is really happening
on the Emerald Isle before she ends up like her sister.
Evocative, dark, sensual, erotic, a touch of mystery, a
dash of humor, action, adventure, pain and suffering -- it's
all here. BLOODFEVER is everything a good book should be.
Moning has a firm grasp on her world and this is only the
second book. She seems to know exactly where she's going
with the story, which is good news for readers. Bold
characters, strong protagonists and the "B" list hold their
own as well. There is heat between Barrons and Mac, but
with a long series arc, it's anyone's guess what the future
holds for these two. More good news, as far as I'm
concerned. I'm there for the long haul. I can't believe I
have to wait an entire freaking year for the next book.
Life is so unfair.
Mackayla Lane's ordinary life underwent a complete
makeover
when she landed on Ireland's shores and was plunged into
a
dark, deadly realm unlike any she ever imagined. In her
fight to stay alive, Mac must find the Sinsar Dubh—a
million-year old book of the blackest magic imaginable
that
holds the key to power over both the worlds of Fae and
Man.
Pursued by Fae assassins, surrounded by mysterious
figures
she knows she cannot trust, Mac finds herself torn
between
two deadly and irresistible men: V'lane, the insatiable
Fae, who can turn sensual arousal into an obsession for
any
woman; and the ever-inscrutable Jericho Barrons, a man as
alluring as he is mysterious.
For centuries, the shadowy realm of the Fae has coexisted
with that of humans. Now the walls between the two are
coming down, and Mac is the only thing that stands
between
them...
