Haley Cutler is taken by surprise and appalled that her
famous husband could divorce her leaving her with
practically nothing. Haley thought marriage was forever.
Haley supported Jay throughout their marriage, helping him
in his work as a producer, she deserved credit for
something. Signing a pre-nuptial was a huge mistake.
Haley knew that now...too late.
Haley realizes she was just a trophy wife, someone to look
good for Jay and nothing more. Now, there was another
trophy wife in the wings, one she advised Jay to cast in a
production!
Haley tries to go back home, but that doesn't work for
her. She decides to move into a motel, nothing like the
five stars she's accustomed, but it will have to do.
Settlement payments must go through one of Jay's financial
advisors, Hamilton Lowe. Haley doesn't trust him one bit
and vice versa, except Hamilton emotes some feelings
towards her...she thinks. Haley doubts her own feelings
otherwise she wouldn't be divorced. She can't even trust
her own self.
Hamilton Lowe is Jay's lawyer specializing in divorce and
the world's most hypocritical being according to Haley. He
tells her to move on, cut her losses, and he also gives her
a pamphlet advertising the Trophy Wives Club at his
church. Haley scoffs at it, but sticks it in her purse.
Haley gets the curious and decides to attend a meeting.
Denying that her situation is like the other trophy wives,
she tries to leave but they support her in her time of
need. Haley learns they are a lot alike, albeit a diverse
group, and starts a new life with the help of some of those
strong women.
Kristin Billerbeck has another winner on her hands. I hope
to see a continuation of Haley in the future. I'd love to
know what happens next in her life. Although this is
touted as a Christian Chick Lit you do not have to be
Christian to read it. Ms. Billerbeck uses true to life
characters that have flaws and are not the typical 'goody
two shoes' type. THE TROPHY WIVES CLUB is for any woman
whether married, divorced, single. You'll laugh,
commiserate, and cheer for the characters on their journey,
especially Haley.
Haley Cutler is the consummate trophy wife. Perhaps was
is the more accurate term. Haley married Prince Charming
when she was only twenty—back in the day when highlights
came from an afternoon at the beach, not three hours in the
salon.
Unfortunately, after seven years as Jay
Cutler's wife, a role that provided significance and what
she thought was love, Jay walks out, and Haley finds herself
with few life skills that translate to the real world, not
to mention a sense of amnesia about who she used to be. But
before Haley can find her way, she must meet with Jay's
lawyer, the strikingly handsome Hamilton Lowe. Although she
can't stand his self-righteous contempt for her divorce, she
takes his suggestion to attend a group at his church called
"The Trophy Wives Club," a Bible study composed of women who
have been dealt a raw deal. Haley's never been into the
whole Jesus thing but could really use some friends to walk
her through this phase (how do you apply for a credit card
anyway?).
As Haley begins to realize that she
really can stand on her own two feet, she also learns that
sometimes in losing we find the real reward . . .
