The past year has been anything but easy for Hannah Dain.
Even now, sitting in a car with her sister Shelby, whom
she's assisting with a legal case regarding nuclear waste
dumping, is stressful. She is keeping huge family secrets
that will affect the lives of those around her, and she's
constantly questioning whether Shelby is relapsing from her
rehab stint; all of this is enough to drive any normal
person insane. Unfortunately, more is to come.
As the two sisters stop for refreshments, the SUV that's
been following them for miles is coming straight at them at
a high speed, then veers off the cliff and plummets into
the lake below. Hannah's first instinct is one of action;
she slides down the hill and saves the driver from the
freezing water, risking her own life in the process. As the
next set of chain events unfolds, Hannah begins to
understand that her saving a life and the case that her
sister is working on are intricately connected to not only
herself, but everyone around her.
I would of like to have read the first book in this series
to understand the characters better, but other than that, I
had a great time reading it. From the very first page,
FALSE FORTUNE is action-packed with deeply held secrets and
danger at every corner. A great read!!
Attorney/kayaker Hannah Dain is in deep water. While
helping her older sister and fellow lawyer, Shelby, collect
evidence for a uranium pollution lawsuit brought by the
local Indian tribe, Hannah rescues a woman whose car
plunges into a lake. This raises other questions, and
Hannah becomes lead attorney on the case. Meanwhile, she’s
having second thoughts about her ex-boyfriend, and the
appearance of her recently-discovered half-sister, Anuya,
jeopardizes her shaky relationship with Shelby. A hunt for
treasure turns dangerous, requiring Hannah to take a chance
on uniting both halves of her family.
