Mystery Woman Sleuth | Contemporary Chick Lit
Cece Caruso loves vintage clothing and writing biographies
about famous deceased mystery writers. When she hears
about a retirement development being built with an Agatha
Christie theme to it, she can't wait to help with its
grand opening. After all her latest biography is about
Agatha Christie! The development is called CHRISTIETOWN and its developer,
Ian Christie, is very mysterious. Ian Christie claims to
be related to the famous Agatha Christie but Cece has
other thoughts about this. Something fishy is going on at
CHRISTIETOWN and she is determined to find out what the
big mystery is. Cece has planned to put on an Agatha Christie play at
CHRISTIETOWN for its grand opening. When it's time for the
show to happen, the star is nowhere to be found. When the
woman ends up dead, Cece runs through suspects in her
head. Did someone kill this woman? What is their motive
for the crime? In the meantime, Cece's ex husband and fiancé show up at
her door. Cece's daughter is pregnant and due to give
birth any day now. Plus Cece is planning a wedding of her
own but somehow the date and plans keep getting pushed
back. How will she be able to concentrate on the
biography with so much going on around her? When Cece starts going undercover to investigate
CHRISTIETOWN she learns it has its problems. When another
murder happens, she realizes she needs to solve this
mystery before she becomes another casualty. With an Agatha Christie biography to write, a pregnant
daughter, a wedding to plan, an ex husband in town, and
now two murders to solve, how will Cece keep it all
together? Even though CHRISTIETOWN is rather short at 280 pages, I
felt the writing dragged and the mystery wasn't
captivating enough to hold my interest. The reasoning for
the crimes and the conclusion were not satisfying to me.
This book was geared towards fans of Agatha Christie. I
found it interesting to read about Agatha Christie's
mysterious disappearance but after a while, I had my fill
of Agatha trivia. Overall this is a fun cozy mystery, but
it may not leave all readers satisfied at the end.
SUMMARY
A new suspense-themed housing tract on the edge of the
Mojave Desert is about to open, and who better to help
promote the Cotswold-cozy development than mystery
biographer extraordinaire Cece Caruso? For the grand opening
weekend, Cece is staging a play featuring the beloved sleuth
Miss Marple. Of course, everything goes wrong, including a
leading lady who ends up dead.
All is not well in Christietown; its secrets are as
complicated as the truth behind Agatha Christie's real-life
disappearance. The developer, an Englishman who claims to be
Dame Agatha's descendent, has ruthless investors breathing
down his neck. Meanwhile, Cece's got a wedding to plan, a
baby shower to give, and an ex-husband who shows up on her
doorstep with his fiancée and future mother-in-law. And when
another body surfaces, the intrepid amateur sleuth knows she
must play the famed detective for real-or suffer the same
mysterious fate.
