Lola Somerville, an author no one has ever heard of, lives
in Brooklyn, NY with her computer wiz husband Doug. Lola's
first book Pink Slip failed miserably after being
classified as chick lit. There is a ton of competition out
there in the chick lit genre and Lola wants no part of it.
After all, her book wasn't even chick lit! Pink Slip was
dubbed chick lit because of its title and the general
assumption that women only write chick lit.
Everyone Lola knows is writing a book or getting a book
deal around her and it is driving her insane. These people
don't even try to become an author, deals just fall into
their laps! Why can't Lola write something that everyone
will rave about and will make the best seller's list?
After going to a book party to celebrate her friend, Mimi
McKee's new book, Lola ends up finding the new author
dead. The police automatically assume her boyfriend,
Quentin, had something to do with it. Unfortunately,
Quentin is Lola's ex and she set the couple up in the
first place! How well does Lola really know her ex
boyfriend? Could he have killed Mimi?
After Mimi's murder, another famous author ends up dead.
One by one chick lit authors are being murdered for no
reason other then their recent success at hitting the best
seller's list. Who is behind this murdering spree?
Lola decides to investigate the case and hopefully turn
the outcome into a best selling book. Will Lola be able to
solve the case before more of her friends are murdered?
And why isn't Lola being stalked? She's a pretty good
author isn't she?
When Lola's book hits the bestseller's list, she wants to
celebrate. But how can she celebrate being added to the
killer's hit list? Lola decides to goad the killer out of
hiding using herself, a ''chick lit author'' as bait. Will
Lola end up dead like all the other authors, or is she not
good enough for the killer's appetite? With the help of
her loving husband Doug, and her best friend Bella, Lola
tries her best to find the Chick Lit Killer before he
claims more victims.
DEATH BY CHICK LIT is hilarious and a joy to read. The
characters are real and loveable, the writing is sharp and
funny, the storyline is solid and kept my interest, and
the conclusion is very satisfying. The writing moved
along at a fast pace from the first sentence to the last.
There is not one dull moment in this delightful mystery. I
adored Lynn Harris' writing and I look forward to many
more books by this extremely talented author.
Someone is killing off the competition in the world of
chick lit-and the results are "hilarious." (Andy Borowitz,
author of The Borowitz Report: The Big Book of Shockers)
Lola Somerville has a husband and a new apartment in
Brooklyn, but what she really wants is for her novel to
make a splash. Unfortunately it hasn't even made a ripple.
Then at a book party, Lola finds her author friend Mimi
McKee with her throat slashed. When the bodies of It-Girl
writers begin to pile up, Lola starts asking dangerous
questions: Are the murders connected? Am I next? If not,
um, why not? If I solve the mystery, then will my agent
remember my name? As Lola digs deeper, the stakes grow
higher. Will getting her hands on the killer- and the book
deal bound to follow-mean losing the people she loves most?
